אֵלָ֨ה Elah ’ê·lāh בֶן־ son ḇen- בַּעְשָׁ֧א of Baasha ba‘·šā מָ֠לַךְ became king mā·laḵ עַל־ of ‘al- יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל Israel , yiś·rā·’êl בְּתִרְצָ֖ה and he reigned in Tirzah bə·ṯir·ṣāh שְׁנָתָֽיִם׃ two years . šə·nā·ṯā·yim 1 Kings 16:9 וְה֤וּא However, while Elah wə·hū בְתִרְצָה֙ was in Tirzah ḇə·ṯir·ṣāh שֹׁתֶ֣ה getting drunk šō·ṯeh שִׁכּ֔וֹר . . . šik·kō·wr בֵּ֣ית in the house bêṯ אַרְצָ֔א of Arza ’ar·ṣā אֲשֶׁ֥ר ’ă·šer עַל־ the steward ‘al- הַבַּ֖יִת of [his] household hab·ba·yiṯ בְּתִרְצָֽה׃ [there] , bə·ṯir·ṣāh עַבְדּ֣וֹ [Elah’s] servant ‘aḇ·dōw זִמְרִ֔י Zimri , zim·rî שַׂ֖ר the commander śar מַחֲצִ֣ית of half ma·ḥă·ṣîṯ הָרָ֑כֶב his chariots , hā·rā·ḵeḇ וַיִּקְשֹׁ֤ר conspired way·yiq·šōr עָלָיו֙ against him . ‘ā·lāw 1 Kings 16:10 עֶשְׂרִ֣ים So in the twenty-seventh ‘eś·rîm וָשֶׁ֔בַע . . . wā·še·ḇa‘ בִּשְׁנַת֙ year biš·naṯ לְאָסָ֖א of Asa’s lə·’ā·sā מֶ֣לֶךְ reign me·leḵ יְהוּדָ֑ה over Judah , yə·hū·ḏāh זִמְרִי֙ Zimri zim·rî וַיָּבֹ֤א went in , way·yā·ḇō וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ struck Elah down , way·yak·kê·hū וַיְמִיתֵ֔הוּ and killed him . way·mî·ṯê·hū וַיִּמְלֹ֖ךְ And Zimri reigned way·yim·lōḵ תַּחְתָּֽיו׃ in his place . taḥ·tāw 1 Kings 16:11 וַיְהִ֨י As soon as way·hî בְמָלְכ֜וֹ [Zimri] began to reign ḇə·mā·lə·ḵōw כְּשִׁבְתּ֣וֹ and was seated kə·šiḇ·tōw עַל־ on ‘al- כִּסְא֗וֹ the throne , kis·’ōw הִכָּה֙ he struck down hik·kāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ the entire kāl- בֵּ֣ית household bêṯ בַּעְשָׁ֔א of Baasha . ba‘·šā לֹֽא־ He did not lō- הִשְׁאִ֥יר leave hiš·’îr ל֖וֹ lōw מַשְׁתִּ֣ין a single male maš·tîn בְּקִ֑יר . . . , bə·qîr וְגֹאֲלָ֖יו whether a kinsman wə·ḡō·’ă·lāw וְרֵעֵֽהוּ׃ or friend . wə·rê·‘ê·hū 1 Kings 16:12 זִמְרִ֔י So Zimri zim·rî אֵ֖ת - ’êṯ וַיַּשְׁמֵ֣ד destroyed way·yaš·mêḏ כָּל־ the entire kāl- בֵּ֣ית household bêṯ בַּעְשָׁ֑א of Baasha , ba‘·šā כִּדְבַ֤ר according to the word kiḏ·ḇar אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh דִּבֶּ֣ר had spoken dib·ber אֶל־ against ’el- בַּעְשָׁ֔א Baasha ba‘·šā בְּיַ֖ד through bə·yaḏ יֵה֥וּא Jehu yê·hū הַנָּבִֽיא׃ the prophet . han·nā·ḇî 1 Kings 16:13 אֶ֚ל This happened because of ’el כָּל־ all kāl- חַטֹּ֣אות the sins ḥaṭ·ṭō·wṯ בַּעְשָׁ֔א Baasha ba‘·šā וְחַטֹּ֖אות [and] wə·ḥaṭ·ṭō·wṯ בְנ֑וֹ his son ḇə·nōw אֵלָ֣ה Elah ’ê·lāh אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer חָטְא֗וּ had committed ḥā·ṭə·’ū וַאֲשֶׁ֤ר - wa·’ă·šer יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל and had caused Israel yiś·rā·’êl הֶחֱטִ֙יאוּ֙ to commit , he·ḥĕ·ṭî·’ū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לְהַכְעִ֗יס provoking lə·haḵ·‘îs אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְהוָ֛ה YHWH , Yah·weh
