הִנִּיחַ֩ he had left hin·nî·aḥ לִשְׁמֹ֨ר to care for liš·mōr הַבַּ֜יִת the palace , hab·ba·yiṯ וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֤ם and he placed them way·yit·tə·nêm בֵּית־ in a house bêṯ- מִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙ under guard . miš·me·reṯ וַֽיְכַלְכְּלֵ֔ם He provided for them , way·ḵal·kə·lêm לֹא־ but he no longer lō- וַאֲלֵיהֶ֖ם slept with wa·’ă·lê·hem בָ֑א them . ḇā וַתִּהְיֶ֧ינָה They were wat·tih·ye·nāh צְרֻר֛וֹת confined ṣə·ru·rō·wṯ עַד־ until ‘aḏ- י֥וֹם the day yō·wm מֻתָ֖ן of their death , mu·ṯān חַיּֽוּת׃ס living ḥay·yūṯ אַלְמְנ֥וּת as widows . ’al·mə·nūṯ 2 Samuel 20:4 הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ Then the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- עֲמָשָׂ֔א Amasa , ‘ă·mā·śā הַזְעֶק־ “ Summon haz·‘eq- אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אִישׁ־ the men ’îš- יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh לִ֥י to come to me lî שְׁלֹ֣שֶׁת within three šə·lō·šeṯ יָמִ֑ים days , yā·mîm פֹּ֥ה and be here pōh עֲמֹֽד׃ . . . ‘ă·mōḏ וְאַתָּ֖ה yourself . ” wə·’at·tāh 2 Samuel 20:5 עֲמָשָׂ֖א So Amasa ‘ă·mā·śā וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ went way·yê·leḵ לְהַזְעִ֣יק to summon lə·haz·‘îq אֶת־ - ’eṯ- יְהוּדָ֑ה Judah , yə·hū·ḏāh וַיֵּיחַר but he took longer way·yē·ḥar מִן־ than min- הַמּוֹעֵ֖ד the time ham·mō·w·‘êḏ אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer יְעָדֽוֹ׃ס allotted him . yə·‘ā·ḏōw 2 Samuel 20:6 דָּוִד֙ And David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אֲבִישַׁ֔י Abishai , ’ă·ḇî·šay עַתָּ֗ה “ Now ‘at·tāh שֶׁ֥בַע Sheba še·ḇa‘ בֶּן־ the son ben- בִּכְרִ֖י of Bichri biḵ·rî יֵ֧רַֽע will do us more harm yê·ra‘ לָ֛נוּ . . . lā·nū מִן־ than min- אַבְשָׁל֑וֹם Absalom . ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm אַ֠תָּה . . . ’at·tāh קַ֞ח Take qaḥ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲדֹנֶ֙יךָ֙ your lord’s ’ă·ḏō·ne·ḵā עַבְדֵ֤י servants ‘aḇ·ḏê וּרְדֹ֣ף and pursue him , ū·rə·ḏōp̄ אַחֲרָ֔יו . . . ’a·ḥă·rāw פֶּן־ or pen- מָ֥צָא he will find mā·ṣā ל֛וֹ . . . lōw בְּצֻר֖וֹת fortified bə·ṣu·rō·wṯ עָרִ֥ים cities ‘ā·rîm וְהִצִּ֥יל and elude wə·hiṣ·ṣîl עֵינֵֽנוּ׃ us . ” ‘ê·nê·nū 2 Samuel 20:7 יוֹאָ֔ב So Joab’s yō·w·’āḇ אַנְשֵׁ֣י men ’an·šê וַיֵּצְא֤וּ - way·yê·ṣə·’ū אַֽחֲרָיו֙ - , ’a·ḥă·rāw וְהַכְּרֵתִ֥י along with the Cherethites , wə·hak·kə·rê·ṯî וְהַפְּלֵתִ֖י the Pelethites , wə·hap·pə·lê·ṯî וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl הַגִּבֹּרִ֑ים the mighty men , hag·gib·bō·rîm וַיֵּֽצְאוּ֙ marched out of way·yê·ṣə·’ū מִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם Jerusalem mî·rū·šā·lim לִרְדֹּ֕ף in pursuit lir·dōp̄ אַחֲרֵ֖י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê שֶׁ֥בַע of Sheba še·ḇa‘ בֶּן־ son ben- בִּכְרִֽי׃ of Bichri . biḵ·rî 2 Samuel 20:8 הֵ֗ם [And while] they hêm עִם־ were at ‘im- הַגְּדוֹלָה֙ the great hag·gə·ḏō·w·lāh
