בְּנִ֤י “ O my son bə·nî אַבְשָׁלוֹם֙ Absalom ! ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm בְּנִ֣י My son , bə·nî בְנִ֣י my son ḇə·nî אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם Absalom ! ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm מִֽי־ If only mî- יִתֵּ֤ן . . . yit·tên אֲנִ֣י I ’ă·nî מוּתִי֙ had died mū·ṯî תַחְתֶּ֔יךָ instead of you , ṯaḥ·te·ḵā אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם O Absalom , ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm בְּנִ֥י my son , bə·nî בְנִֽי׃ my son ! ” ḇə·nî 2 Samuel 19:1 וַיֻּגַּ֖ד Then it was reported way·yug·gaḏ לְיוֹאָ֑ב to Joab , lə·yō·w·’āḇ הִנֵּ֨ה . . . hin·nêh הַמֶּ֧לֶךְ “ The king ham·me·leḵ בֹּכֶ֛ה is weeping bō·ḵeh וַיִּתְאַבֵּ֖ל and mourning way·yiṯ·’ab·bêl עַל־ over ‘al- אַבְשָׁלֹֽם׃ Absalom . ” ’aḇ·šā·lōm 2 Samuel 19:2 הַה֛וּא And that ha·hū בַּיּ֥וֹם day’s bay·yō·wm הַתְּשֻׁעָ֜ה victory hat·tə·šu·‘āh וַתְּהִ֨י was turned wat·tə·hî לְאֵ֖בֶל into mourning lə·’ê·ḇel לְכָל־ for all lə·ḵāl הָעָ֑ם the people , hā·‘ām כִּֽי־ because kî- הַהוּא֙ on that ha·hū לֵאמֹ֔ר . . . lê·mōr בַּיּ֤וֹם day bay·yō·wm הָעָ֗ם [they] hā·‘ām שָׁמַ֣ע were told , šā·ma‘ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ “ The king ham·me·leḵ נֶעֱצַ֥ב is grieving ne·‘ĕ·ṣaḇ עַל־ over ‘al- בְּנֽוֹ׃ his son . ” bə·nōw 2 Samuel 19:3 הָעָ֛ם So they hā·‘ām לָב֣וֹא returned lā·ḇō·w הָעִ֑יר to the city hā·‘îr וַיִּתְגַּנֵּ֥ב quietly way·yiṯ·gan·nêḇ הַה֖וּא that ha·hū בַּיּ֥וֹם day , bay·yō·wm כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר as ka·’ă·šer הָעָם֙ people hā·‘ām יִתְגַּנֵּ֗ב steal away yiṯ·gan·nêḇ הַנִּכְלָמִ֔ים in humiliation han·niḵ·lā·mîm בְּנוּסָ֖ם after fleeing bə·nū·sām בַּמִּלְחָמָֽה׃ a battle . bam·mil·ḥā·māh 2 Samuel 19:4 וְהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ But the king wə·ham·me·leḵ לָאַ֣ט covered lā·’aṭ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- פָּנָ֔יו his face pā·nāw וַיִּזְעַ֥ק and cried out way·yiz·‘aq הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ . . . ham·me·leḵ גָּד֑וֹל at the top gā·ḏō·wl ק֣וֹל of his voice , qō·wl בְּנִי֙ “ O my son bə·nî אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם Absalom ! ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm אַבְשָׁל֖וֹם O Absalom , ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm בְּנִ֥י my son , bə·nî בְנִֽי׃ס my son ! ” ḇə·nî 2 Samuel 19:5 יוֹאָ֛ב Then Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיָּבֹ֥א went way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ into ’el- הַבָּ֑יִת the house hab·bā·yiṯ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ and said way·yō·mer הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ to the king , ham·me·leḵ הַיּ֜וֹם “ Today hay·yō·wm הֹבַ֨שְׁתָּ you have disgraced hō·ḇaš·tā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- פְּנֵ֣י - pə·nê כָל־ all ḵāl עֲבָדֶ֗יךָ your servants ‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā הַֽמְמַלְּטִ֤ים who have saved ham·mal·lə·ṭîm אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- נַפְשְׁךָ֙ your life nap̄·šə·ḵā הַיּ֔וֹם . . . hay·yō·wm וְאֵ֨ת - wə·’êṯ נֶ֤פֶשׁ and the lives ne·p̄eš בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ of your sons bā·ne·ḵā וּבְנֹתֶ֔יךָ and daughters , ū·ḇə·nō·ṯe·ḵā וְנֶ֣פֶשׁ . . . wə·ne·p̄eš נָשֶׁ֔יךָ of your wives , nā·še·ḵā
