לְמֵא֖וֹת by hundreds lə·mê·’ō·wṯ וְלַאֲלָפִֽים׃ and by thousands . wə·la·’ă·lā·p̄îm 2 Samuel 18:5 הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ Now the king ham·me·leḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיְצַ֣ו had commanded way·ṣaw י֠וֹאָב Joab , yō·w·’āḇ וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- אֲבִישַׁ֤י Abishai , ’ă·ḇî·šay וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- אִתַּי֙ and Ittai , ’it·tay לֵאמֹ֔ר . . . lê·mōr לַנַּ֣עַר “ Treat the young man lan·na·‘ar לְאַבְשָׁל֑וֹם Absalom lə·’aḇ·šā·lō·wm לְאַט־ gently lə·’aṭ- לִ֖י for my sake . ” lî וְכָל־ And all wə·ḵāl הָעָ֣ם the people hā·‘ām שָׁמְע֗וּ heard šā·mə·‘ū הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ the king’s ham·me·leḵ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בְּצַוֺּ֥ת orders bə·ṣaw·wōṯ כָּל־ to each kāl- הַשָּׂרִ֖ים of the commanders haś·śā·rîm עַל־ regarding ‘al- דְּבַ֥ר . . . də·ḇar אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ Absalom . ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm 2 Samuel 18:6 הָעָ֛ם So David’s army hā·‘ām וַיֵּצֵ֥א marched way·yê·ṣê הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה into the field haś·śā·ḏeh לִקְרַ֣את to engage liq·raṯ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl הַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה in the battle , ham·mil·ḥā·māh וַתְּהִ֥י which took place wat·tə·hî בְּיַ֥עַר in the forest bə·ya·‘ar אֶפְרָֽיִם׃ of Ephraim . ’ep̄·rā·yim 2 Samuel 18:7 שָׁם֙ There šām עַ֣ם the people ‘am יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּנָּ֤גְפוּ were defeated way·yin·nā·ḡə·p̄ū לִפְנֵ֖י by lip̄·nê דָוִ֑ד David’s ḏā·wiḏ עַבְדֵ֣י servants , ‘aḇ·ḏê הַמַּגֵּפָ֧ה and the slaughter ham·mag·gê·p̄āh וַתְּהִי־ was wat·tə·hî- שָׁ֞ם . . . šām גְדוֹלָ֛ה great ḡə·ḏō·w·lāh הַה֖וּא that ha·hū בַּיּ֥וֹם day — bay·yō·wm עֶשְׂרִ֥ים twenty ‘eś·rîm אָֽלֶף׃ thousand [men] . ’ā·lep̄ 2 Samuel 18:8 וַתְּהִי־ - wat·tə·hî- שָׁ֧ם - šām הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה The battle ham·mil·ḥā·māh נָפֹצֵית spread nå̄·p̄ō·ṣēṯ עַל־ over ‘al- פְּנֵ֣י . . . pə·nê כָל־ the whole ḵāl הָאָ֑רֶץ countryside , hā·’ā·reṣ הַהֽוּא׃ and that ha·hū בַּיּ֥וֹם day bay·yō·wm הַיַּ֙עַר֙ the forest hay·ya·‘ar לֶאֱכֹ֣ל devoured le·’ĕ·ḵōl וַיֶּ֤רֶב more way·ye·reḇ בָּעָ֔ם people bā·‘ām מֵאֲשֶׁ֥ר than mê·’ă·šer אָכְלָ֛ה . . . ’ā·ḵə·lāh הַחֶ֖רֶב the sword . ha·ḥe·reḇ 2 Samuel 18:9 אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם Now Absalom ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm לִפְנֵ֖י . . . lip̄·nê רֹכֵ֣ב was riding rō·ḵêḇ עַל־ on ‘al- הַפֶּ֗רֶד his mule hap·pe·reḏ וְאַבְשָׁל֞וֹם when he wə·’aḇ·šā·lō·wm וַיִּקָּרֵא֙ met way·yiq·qā·rê עַבְדֵ֣י the servants ‘aḇ·ḏê דָוִ֑ד of David , ḏā·wiḏ הַפֶּ֡רֶד and as the mule hap·pe·reḏ וַיָּבֹ֣א went way·yā·ḇō תַּ֣חַת under ta·ḥaṯ שׂוֹבֶךְ֩ the thick branches śō·w·ḇeḵ הַגְּדוֹלָ֜ה of a large hag·gə·ḏō·w·lāh הָאֵלָ֨ה oak , hā·’ê·lāh רֹאשׁ֣וֹ Absalom’s head rō·šōw וַיֶּחֱזַ֧ק was caught fast way·ye·ḥĕ·zaq בָאֵלָ֗ה in the tree . ḇā·’ê·lāh
