2 Samuel 14:5 מַה־ “ What mah- לָּ֑ךְ troubles you ? ” lāḵ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּֽאמֶר־ asked way·yō·mer- לָ֥הּ her . lāh אֲבָ֛ל “ Indeed , ” ’ă·ḇāl וַתֹּ֗אמֶר she said , wat·tō·mer אָ֖נִי “ I [am] ’ā·nî אִשָּֽׁה־ vvv ’iš·šāh- אַלְמָנָ֥ה a widow , ’al·mā·nāh אִישִֽׁי׃ for my husband ’î·šî וַיָּ֥מָת is dead . way·yā·māṯ 2 Samuel 14:6 וּלְשִׁפְחָֽתְךָ֙ And your maidservant ū·lə·šip̄·ḥā·ṯə·ḵā שְׁנֵ֣י had two šə·nê בָנִ֔ים sons ḇā·nîm שְׁנֵיהֶם֙ [who] šə·nê·hem וַיִּנָּצ֤וּ were fighting way·yin·nā·ṣū בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה in the field baś·śā·ḏeh וְאֵ֥ין with no wə·’ên מַצִּ֖יל one to separate maṣ·ṣîl בֵּֽינֵיהֶ֑ם them , bê·nê·hem הָאֶחָ֛ד and one hā·’e·ḥāḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּכּ֧וֹ struck way·yak·kōw הָאֶחָ֖ד the other hā·’e·ḥāḏ וַיָּ֥מֶת and killed way·yā·meṯ אֹתֽוֹ׃ him . ’ō·ṯōw 2 Samuel 14:7 וְהִנֵּה֩ Now wə·hin·nêh כָֽל־ the whole ḵāl הַמִּשְׁפָּחָ֜ה clan ham·miš·pā·ḥāh קָ֨מָה has risen up qā·māh עַל־ against ‘al- שִׁפְחָתֶ֗ךָ your maidservant šip̄·ḥā·ṯe·ḵā וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ and said , way·yō·mə·rū תְּנִ֣י׀ ‘ Hand over tə·nî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מַכֵּ֣ה the one who struck down mak·kêh אָחִ֗יו his brother , ’ā·ḥîw וּנְמִתֵ֙הוּ֙ that we may put him to death ū·nə·mi·ṯê·hū בְּנֶ֤פֶשׁ for the life bə·ne·p̄eš אָחִיו֙ of the brother ’ā·ḥîw אֲשֶׁ֣ר whom ’ă·šer הָרָ֔ג he killed . hā·rāḡ וְנַשְׁמִ֖ידָה Then we will cut off wə·naš·mî·ḏāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַיּוֹרֵ֑שׁ the heir hay·yō·w·rêš גַּ֣ם as well ! ’ gam וְכִבּ֗וּ So they would extinguish wə·ḵib·bū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- נִשְׁאָ֔רָה my one remaining niš·’ā·rāh גַּֽחַלְתִּי֙ ember ga·ḥal·tî אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer לְבִלְתִּ֧י by not lə·ḇil·tî שׂוּם preserving śūm לְאִישִׁ֛י my husband’s lə·’î·šî שֵׁ֥ם name šêm וּשְׁאֵרִ֖ית or posterity ū·šə·’ê·rîṯ עַל־ on ‘al- פְּנֵ֥י . . . pə·nê הָאֲדָמָֽה׃פ the earth . ” hā·’ă·ḏā·māh 2 Samuel 14:8 לְכִ֣י “ Go lə·ḵî לְבֵיתֵ֑ךְ home , ” lə·ḇê·ṯêḵ הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- הָאִשָּׁ֖ה the woman , hā·’iš·šāh וַאֲנִ֖י “ and I wa·’ă·nî אֲצַוֶּ֥ה will give orders ’ă·ṣaw·weh עָלָֽיִךְ׃ on your behalf . ” ‘ā·lā·yiḵ 2 Samuel 14:9 הָאִשָּׁ֤ה But the woman hā·’iš·šāh הַתְּקוֹעִית֙ of Tekoa hat·tə·qō·w·‘îṯ וַתֹּ֜אמֶר said wat·tō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ the king , ham·me·leḵ אֲדֹנִ֥י “ My lord ’ă·ḏō·nî הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ the king , ham·me·leḵ הֶעָוֺ֖ן may any blame be he·‘ā·wōn עָלַ֞י on me ‘ā·lay וְעַל־ and on wə·‘al- אָבִ֑י my father’s ’ā·ḇî בֵּ֣ית house , bêṯ וְהַמֶּ֥לֶךְ and may the king wə·ham·me·leḵ וְכִסְא֖וֹ and his throne wə·ḵis·’ōw נָקִֽי׃ס [be] guiltless . ” nā·qî
