בַּחֶ֙בֶל֙ with a cord . ba·ḥe·ḇel וַיְמַדֵּ֤ד He measured off way·mad·dêḏ שְׁנֵֽי־ with two šə·nê- חֲבָלִים֙ lengths ḥă·ḇā·lîm לְהָמִ֔ית those to be put to death , lə·hā·mîṯ וּמְלֹ֥א and with one ū·mə·lō הַחֶ֖בֶל length ha·ḥe·ḇel לְהַחֲי֑וֹת those to be spared . lə·ha·ḥă·yō·wṯ מוֹאָב֙ So the Moabites mō·w·’āḇ וַתְּהִ֤י became wat·tə·hî לַעֲבָדִ֖ים subject la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm לְדָוִ֔ד to David lə·ḏā·wiḏ נֹשְׂאֵ֥י and brought him nō·śə·’ê מִנְחָֽה׃ tribute . min·ḥāh 2 Samuel 8:3 דָּוִ֔ד David dā·wiḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּ֣ךְ also defeated way·yaḵ הֲדַדְעֶ֥זֶר Hadadezer hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer בֶּן־ son ben- רְחֹ֖ב of Rehob , rə·ḥōḇ מֶ֣לֶךְ king me·leḵ צוֹבָ֑ה of Zobah , ṣō·w·ḇāh בְּלֶכְתּ֕וֹ who had marched out bə·leḵ·tōw לְהָשִׁ֥יב to restore lə·hā·šîḇ יָד֖וֹ his dominion yā·ḏōw בִּֽנְהַר־׃ along the [Euphrates] River . bin·har- 2 Samuel 8:4 דָּוִ֜ד David dā·wiḏ וַיִּלְכֹּ֨ד captured way·yil·kōḏ מִמֶּ֗נּוּ from him mim·men·nū אֶ֤לֶף a thousand [chariots] , ’e·lep̄ וּשְׁבַע־ seven ū·šə·ḇa‘- מֵאוֹת֙ thousand mê·’ō·wṯ פָּרָשִׁ֔ים charioteers , pā·rā·šîm וְעֶשְׂרִ֥ים and twenty wə·‘eś·rîm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ’e·lep̄ אִ֣ישׁ foot soldiers ’îš רַגְלִ֑י . . . , raḡ·lî דָּוִד֙ and he dā·wiḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיְעַקֵּ֤ר hamstrung way·‘aq·qêr כָּל־ all kāl- הָרֶ֔כֶב the horses hā·re·ḵeḇ מִמֶּ֖נּוּ . . . mim·men·nū מֵ֥אָה except a hundred mê·’āh וַיּוֹתֵ֥ר he kept way·yō·w·ṯêr רָֽכֶב׃ for the chariots . rā·ḵeḇ 2 Samuel 8:5 אֲרַ֣ם When the Arameans ’ă·ram דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק of Damascus dam·me·śeq וַתָּבֹא֙ came wat·tā·ḇō לַעְזֹ֕ר to help la‘·zōr מֶ֣לֶךְ King me·leḵ לַהֲדַדְעֶ֖זֶר Hadadezer la·hă·ḏaḏ·‘e·zer צוֹבָ֑ה of Zobah , ṣō·w·ḇāh דָּוִד֙ David dā·wiḏ בַּֽאֲרָ֔ם . . . ba·’ă·rām וַיַּ֤ךְ struck down way·yaḵ עֶשְׂרִֽים־ twenty-two ‘eś·rîm- וּשְׁנַ֥יִם . . . ū·šə·na·yim אֶ֖לֶף thousand ’e·lep̄ אִֽישׁ׃ men . ’îš 2 Samuel 8:6 דָּוִ֤ד Then he dā·wiḏ וַיָּ֨שֶׂם placed way·yā·śem נְצִבִים֙ garrisons nə·ṣi·ḇîm בַּאֲרַ֣ם in Aram ba·’ă·ram דַּמֶּ֔שֶׂק of Damascus , dam·me·śeq אֲרָם֙ and the Arameans ’ă·rām וַתְּהִ֤י became wat·tə·hî לַעֲבָדִ֖ים subject la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm לְדָוִ֔ד to David lə·ḏā·wiḏ נוֹשְׂאֵ֣י and brought him nō·wś·’ê מִנְחָ֑ה tribute . min·ḥāh יְהוָה֙ So YHWH Yah·weh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דָּוִ֔ד made David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֤שַׁע victorious way·yō·ša‘ בְּכֹ֖ל wherever bə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer הָלָֽךְ׃ he went . hā·lāḵ 2 Samuel 8:7 דָּוִ֗ד And David dā·wiḏ אֵ֚ת - ’êṯ וַיִּקַּ֣ח took way·yiq·qaḥ הַזָּהָ֔ב the gold haz·zā·hāḇ שִׁלְטֵ֣י shields šil·ṭê אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer הָי֔וּ belonged hā·yū
