וְאֵיךְ֙ How wə·’êḵ אֶשָּׂ֣א could I show ’eś·śā פָנַ֔י my face p̄ā·nay אֶל־ to ’el- אָחִֽיךָ׃ your brother ’ā·ḥî·ḵā יוֹאָ֖ב Joab ? ” yō·w·’āḇ 2 Samuel 2:23 וַיְמָאֵ֣ן But Asahel refused way·mā·’ên לָס֗וּר to turn away ; lā·sūr אַבְנֵר֩ so Abner ’aḇ·nêr וַיַּכֵּ֣הוּ thrust way·yak·kê·hū בְּאַחֲרֵ֨י the butt bə·’a·ḥă·rê הַחֲנִ֜ית of his spear ha·ḥă·nîṯ אֶל־ into ’el- הַחֹ֗מֶשׁ his stomach , ha·ḥō·meš הַֽחֲנִית֙ and [it] ha·ḥă·nîṯ וַתֵּצֵ֤א came out wat·tê·ṣê מֵאַחֲרָ֔יו his back , mê·’a·ḥă·rāw וַיִּפָּל־ and he fell way·yip·pāl- וַיָּ֣מָת dead way·yā·māṯ תַּחַתוֹ . . . ta·ḥa·ṯō וַיְהִ֡י . . . way·hî שָׁ֖ם on the spot . šām כָּל־ And every man kāl- וַֽיַּעֲמֹֽדוּ׃ paused way·ya·‘ă·mō·ḏū הַבָּ֣א when he came hab·bā אֶֽל־ to ’el- הַמָּקוֹם֩ the place ham·mā·qō·wm אֲשֶׁר־ where ’ă·šer- עֲשָׂהאֵ֛ל Asahel ‘ă·śā·h·’êl נָ֨פַל had fallen nā·p̄al שָׁ֧ם . . . šām וַיָּמֹ֖ת and died . way·yā·mōṯ 2 Samuel 2:24 יוֹאָ֥ב But Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַאֲבִישַׁ֖י and Abishai wa·’ă·ḇî·šay אַחֲרֵ֣י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê וַֽיִּרְדְּפ֛וּ pursued way·yir·də·p̄ū אַבְנֵ֑ר Abner . ’aḇ·nêr וְהַשֶּׁ֣מֶשׁ By sunset wə·haš·še·meš בָּ֔אָה . . . , bā·’āh וְהֵ֗מָּה they wə·hêm·māh בָּ֚אוּ had gone bā·’ū עַד־ as ‘aḏ- גִּבְעַ֣ת far as the hill giḇ·‘aṯ אַמָּ֔ה of Ammah ’am·māh אֲשֶׁר֙ - ’ă·šer עַל־ opposite ‘al- פְּנֵי־ . . . pə·nê- גִ֔יחַ Giah ḡî·aḥ דֶּ֖רֶךְ on the way de·reḵ מִדְבַּ֥ר to the wilderness miḏ·bar גִּבְעֽוֹן׃ of Gibeon . giḇ·‘ō·wn 2 Samuel 2:25 בְנֵֽי־ The Benjamites ḇə·nê- בִנְיָמִן֙ . . . ḇin·yā·min אַחֲרֵ֣י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê וַיִּֽתְקַבְּצ֤וּ rallied way·yiṯ·qab·bə·ṣū אַבְנֵ֔ר to Abner , ’aḇ·nêr וַיִּהְי֖וּ formed way·yih·yū אֶחָ֑ת a single ’e·ḥāṯ לַאֲגֻדָּ֣ה unit , la·’ă·ḡud·dāh וַיַּ֣עַמְד֔וּ and took their stand way·ya·‘am·ḏū עַ֥ל vvv ‘al רֹאשׁ־ atop rōš- אֶחָֽת׃ a ’e·ḥāṯ גִּבְעָ֖ה hill . giḇ·‘āh 2 Samuel 2:26 אַבְנֵ֜ר Then Abner ’aḇ·nêr וַיִּקְרָ֨א called out way·yiq·rā אֶל־ to ’el- יוֹאָ֗ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ : way·yō·mer חֶ֔רֶב “ Must the sword ḥe·reḇ תֹּ֣אכַל devour forever tō·ḵal הֲלָנֶ֙צַח֙ . . . ? hă·lā·ne·ṣaḥ הֲל֣וֹא Do you not hă·lō·w יָדַ֔עְתָּה realize yā·ḏa‘·tāh כִּֽי־ that kî- בָּאַחֲרוֹנָ֑ה this will only end bā·’a·ḥă·rō·w·nāh מָרָ֥ה in bitterness ? mā·rāh תִהְיֶ֖ה . . . ṯih·yeh וְעַד־ How long wə·‘aḏ- מָתַי֙ . . . mā·ṯay לֹֽא־ . . . lō- תֹאמַ֣ר before you tell ṯō·mar לָעָ֔ם the troops lā·‘ām לָשׁ֖וּב to stop lā·šūḇ מֵאַחֲרֵ֥י pursuing mê·’a·ḥă·rê אֲחֵיהֶֽם׃ their brothers ? ” ’ă·ḥê·hem
