בְּחֶבְר֖וֹן in Hebron bə·ḥeḇ·rō·wn עַל־ over ‘al- בֵּ֣ית the house bêṯ יְהוּדָ֑ה of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh שֶׁ֥בַע was seven še·ḇa‘ שָׁנִ֖ים years šā·nîm וְשִׁשָּׁ֥ה and six wə·šiš·šāh חֳדָשִֽׁים׃ס months . ḥo·ḏā·šîm 2 Samuel 2:12 אַבְנֵ֣ר One day Abner ’aḇ·nêr בֶּן־ son ben- נֵ֔ר of Ner nêr וְעַבְדֵ֖י and the servants wə·‘aḇ·ḏê אִֽישׁ־ vvv ’îš- בֹּ֣שֶׁת of Ish-bosheth bō·šeṯ בֶּן־ son ben- שָׁא֑וּל of Saul šā·’ūl וַיֵּצֵא֙ marched out way·yê·ṣê מִֽמַּחֲנַ֖יִם from Mahanaim mim·ma·ḥă·na·yim גִּבְעֽוֹנָה׃ to Gibeon . giḇ·‘ō·w·nāh 2 Samuel 2:13 וְיוֹאָ֨ב So Joab wə·yō·w·’āḇ בֶּן־ son ben- צְרוּיָ֜ה of Zeruiah , ṣə·rū·yāh וְעַבְדֵ֤י along with the servants wə·‘aḇ·ḏê דָוִד֙ of David , ḏā·wiḏ יָֽצְא֔וּ marched out yā·ṣə·’ū וַֽיִּפְגְּשׁ֛וּם and met them way·yip̄·gə·šūm עַל־ by ‘al- בְּרֵכַ֥ת the pool bə·rê·ḵaṯ גִּבְע֖וֹן of Gibeon . giḇ·‘ō·wn יַחְדָּ֑ו . . . yaḥ·dāw אֵ֤לֶּה And the two camps ’êl·leh וַיֵּ֨שְׁב֜וּ took up positions way·yê·šə·ḇū עַל־ on ‘al- מִזֶּ֔ה opposite sides miz·zeh וְאֵ֥לֶּה . . . wə·’êl·leh עַל־ . . . ‘al- הַבְּרֵכָ֖ה . . . hab·bə·rê·ḵāh מִזֶּֽה׃ . . . miz·zeh הַבְּרֵכָה֙ of the pool . hab·bə·rê·ḵāh 2 Samuel 2:14 אַבְנֵר֙ Then Abner ’aḇ·nêr וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- יוֹאָ֔ב Joab , yō·w·’āḇ הַנְּעָרִ֔ים “ Let us have the young men han·nə·‘ā·rîm יָק֤וּמוּ get up yā·qū·mū נָא֙ . . . nā וִֽישַׂחֲק֖וּ and compete wî·śa·ḥă·qū לְפָנֵ֑ינוּ before us . ” lə·p̄ā·nê·nū יָקֻֽמוּ׃ “ Let them get up , ” yā·qu·mū יוֹאָ֖ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר replied . way·yō·mer 2 Samuel 2:15 וַיָּקֻ֖מוּ So they got up way·yā·qu·mū וַיַּעַבְר֣וּ . . . way·ya·‘aḇ·rū בְמִסְפָּ֑ר and were counted off — ḇə·mis·pār שְׁנֵ֧ים twelve šə·nêm עָשָׂ֣ר . . . ‘ā·śār לְבִנְיָמִ֗ן for Benjamin lə·ḇin·yā·min וּלְאִ֥ישׁ vvv ū·lə·’îš בֹּ֙שֶׁת֙ and Ish-bosheth bō·šeṯ בֶּן־ son ben- שָׁא֔וּל of Saul , šā·’ūl וּשְׁנֵ֥ים and twelve ū·šə·nêm עָשָׂ֖ר . . . ‘ā·śār דָוִֽד׃ for David ḏā·wiḏ מֵעַבְדֵ֥י - . mê·‘aḇ·ḏê 2 Samuel 2:16 אִ֣ישׁ׀ Then each man ’îš וַֽיַּחֲזִ֜קוּ grabbed way·ya·ḥă·zi·qū רֵעֵ֗הוּ his opponent rê·‘ê·hū בְּרֹ֣אשׁ by the head bə·rōš וְחַרְבּוֹ֙ and thrust his sword wə·ḥar·bōw רֵעֵ֔הוּ into his opponent’s rê·‘ê·hū בְּצַ֣ד side , bə·ṣaḏ וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ and they all fell way·yip·pə·lū יַחְדָּ֑ו together . yaḥ·dāw הַה֔וּא So this ha·hū לַמָּק֣וֹם place , lam·mā·qō·wm אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ’ă·šer בְּגִבְעֽוֹן׃ is in Gibeon , bə·ḡiḇ·‘ō·wn וַיִּקְרָא֙ is called way·yiq·rā חֶלְקַ֥ת vvv ḥel·qaṯ הַצֻּרִ֖ים Helkath-hazzurim . haṣ·ṣu·rîm 2 Samuel 2:17 הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה The battle ham·mil·ḥā·māh
