וַחֲמֹרִ֤ים the donkeys , wa·ḥă·mō·rîm וּגְמַלִּים֙ camels , ū·ḡə·mal·lîm וּבְגָדִ֔ים and clothing . ū·ḇə·ḡā·ḏîm וַיָּ֖שָׁב Then he would return way·yā·šāḇ וַיָּבֹ֥א . . . way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- אָכִֽישׁ׃ Achish , ’ā·ḵîš 1 Samuel 27:10 אָכִ֔ישׁ who ’ā·ḵîš אַל־ . . . ’al- וַיֹּ֣אמֶר would ask him , way·yō·mer פְּשַׁטְתֶּ֖ם “ What have you raided today pə·šaṭ·tem הַיּ֑וֹם . . . ? ” hay·yō·wm דָּוִ֗ד And David dā·wiḏ עַל־ . . . ‘al- וַיֹּ֣אמֶר would reply , way·yō·mer נֶ֤גֶב “ The Negev ne·ḡeḇ יְהוּדָה֙ of Judah , ” yə·hū·ḏāh וְעַל־ or wə·‘al- נֶ֣גֶב “ The Negev ne·ḡeḇ הַיַּרְחְמְאֵלִ֔י of Jerahmeel ,” hay·yar·ḥə·mə·’ê·lî וְאֶל־ or wə·’el- נֶ֖גֶב “ The Negev ne·ḡeḇ הַקֵּינִֽי׃ of the Kenites .” haq·qê·nî 1 Samuel 27:11 דָוִ֗ד David ḏā·wiḏ לֹֽא־ did not {leave} lō- וְאִ֨ישׁ a man wə·’îš וְאִשָּׁ֜ה or woman wə·’iš·šāh יְחַיֶּ֣ה alive yə·ḥay·yeh לְהָבִ֥יא to be brought lə·hā·ḇî גַת֙ to Gath , ḡaṯ לֵאמֹ֔ר for he said , lê·mōr פֶּן־ “ Otherwise pen- יַגִּ֥דוּ they will report yag·gi·ḏū עָלֵ֖ינוּ us , ‘ā·lê·nū לֵאמֹ֑ר saying , lê·mōr כֹּֽה־ ‘ This is what kōh- דָוִד֙ David ḏā·wiḏ עָשָׂ֤ה did . ’” ‘ā·śāh וְכֹ֣ה And this wə·ḵōh מִשְׁפָּט֔וֹ was David’s custom miš·pā·ṭōw כָּל־ the whole kāl- הַ֨יָּמִ֔ים time hay·yā·mîm אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer יָשַׁ֖ב he lived yā·šaḇ פְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃ in Philistine p̄ə·liš·tîm בִּשְׂדֵ֥ה territory . biś·ḏêh 1 Samuel 27:12 אָכִ֖ישׁ So Achish ’ā·ḵîš וַיַּאֲמֵ֥ן trusted way·ya·’ă·mên בְּדָוִ֣ד David , bə·ḏā·wiḏ לֵאמֹ֑ר thinking , lê·mōr הַבְאֵ֤שׁ “ Since he has made himself an utter stench haḇ·’êš הִבְאִישׁ֙ . . . hiḇ·’îš בְּעַמּ֣וֹ to his people bə·‘am·mōw בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel , ḇə·yiś·rā·’êl וְהָ֥יָה he will be wə·hā·yāh לִ֖י my lî לְעֶ֥בֶד servant lə·‘e·ḇeḏ עוֹלָֽם׃פ forever .” ‘ō·w·lām 1 Samuel 28:1 וַֽיְהִי֙ Now way·hî הָהֵ֔ם in those hā·hêm בַּיָּמִ֣ים days bay·yā·mîm פְלִשְׁתִּ֤ים the Philistines p̄ə·liš·tîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּקְבְּצ֨וּ gathered way·yiq·bə·ṣū מַֽחֲנֵיהֶם֙ their forces ma·ḥă·nê·hem לַצָּבָ֔א for warfare laṣ·ṣā·ḇā לְהִלָּחֵ֖ם . . . lə·hil·lā·ḥêm בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל against Israel . bə·yiś·rā·’êl אָכִישׁ֙ So Achish ’ā·ḵîš וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- דָּוִ֔ד David , dā·wiḏ יָדֹ֣עַ “ You must understand yā·ḏō·a‘ תֵּדַ֗ע . . . tê·ḏa‘ כִּ֤י that kî אַתָּ֖ה you ’at·tāh וַאֲנָשֶֽׁיךָ׃ and your men wa·’ă·nā·še·ḵā תֵּצֵ֣א are to go out tê·ṣê בַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔ה to battle ḇam·ma·ḥă·neh אִתִּי֙ with me .” ’it·tî 1 Samuel 28:2 דָּוִד֙ David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר replied way·yō·mer אֶל־ - ’el- אָכִ֔ישׁ - , ’ā·ḵîš לָכֵן֙ “ Then lā·ḵên
