אֶל־ with ’el- שָׁא֔וּל Saul , šā·’ūl וְנֶ֙פֶשׁ֙ the souls wə·ne·p̄eš יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן of Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān דָּוִ֑ד and David dā·wiḏ נִקְשְׁרָ֖ה were knit together niq·šə·rāh בְּנֶ֣פֶשׁ . . . , bə·ne·p̄eš יְהוֹנָתָ֖ן and Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān וַיֶּאֱהָבוֹ loved him way·yɛ·ʾɛ̆·hå̄·ḇō כְּנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ as himself . kə·nap̄·šōw 1 Samuel 18:2 הַה֑וּא And from that ha·hū בַּיּ֣וֹם day bay·yō·wm שָׁא֖וּל Saul šā·’ūl וַיִּקָּחֵ֥הוּ kept David with him way·yiq·qā·ḥê·hū וְלֹ֣א and did not wə·lō נְתָנ֔וֹ let him nə·ṯā·nōw לָשׁ֖וּב return lā·šūḇ אָבִֽיו׃ to his father’s ’ā·ḇîw בֵּ֥ית house . bêṯ 1 Samuel 18:3 יְהוֹנָתָ֛ן Then Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān וַיִּכְרֹ֧ת made way·yiḵ·rōṯ בְּרִ֑ית a covenant bə·rîṯ וְדָוִ֖ד with David wə·ḏā·wiḏ בְּאַהֲבָת֥וֹ because he loved bə·’a·hă·ḇā·ṯōw אֹת֖וֹ him ’ō·ṯōw כְּנַפְשֽׁוֹ׃ as himself . kə·nap̄·šōw 1 Samuel 18:4 יְהוֹנָתָ֗ן And Jonathan yə·hō·w·nā·ṯān אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּתְפַּשֵּׁ֣ט removed way·yiṯ·paš·šêṭ הַמְּעִיל֙ the robe ham·mə·‘îl אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer עָלָ֔יו he was wearing ‘ā·lāw וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֖הוּ and gave way·yit·tə·nê·hū לְדָוִ֑ד it to David , lə·ḏā·wiḏ וּמַדָּ֕יו along with his tunic , ū·mad·dāw וְעַד־ . . . wə·‘aḏ- חַרְבּ֥וֹ his sword , ḥar·bōw וְעַד־ . . . wə·‘aḏ- קַשְׁתּ֖וֹ his bow , qaš·tōw וְעַד־ . . . wə·‘aḏ- חֲגֹרֽוֹ׃ and his belt . ḥă·ḡō·rōw 1 Samuel 18:5 דָוִ֜ד So David ḏā·wiḏ וַיֵּצֵ֨א marched out way·yê·ṣê יַשְׂכִּ֔יל [and] prospered yaś·kîl בְּכֹל֩ in everything bə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer שָׁאוּל֙ Saul šā·’ūl יִשְׁלָחֶ֤נּוּ sent him to do , yiš·lā·ḥen·nū שָׁא֔וּל and Saul šā·’ūl וַיְשִׂמֵ֣הוּ set him way·śi·mê·hū עַ֖ל over ‘al אַנְשֵׁ֣י the men ’an·šê הַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה of war . ham·mil·ḥā·māh וַיִּיטַב֙ And this was pleasing way·yî·ṭaḇ בְּעֵינֵ֣י in the sight bə·‘ê·nê כָל־ of all ḵāl הָעָ֔ם the people , hā·‘ām שָׁאֽוּל׃פ and of Saul’s šā·’ūl עַבְדֵ֥י officers ‘aḇ·ḏê וְגַ֕ם as well wə·ḡam בְּעֵינֵ֖י . . . . bə·‘ê·nê 1 Samuel 18:6 וַיְהִ֣י As the troops way·hî בְּבוֹאָ֗ם vvv bə·ḇō·w·’ām בְּשׁ֤וּב were returning home bə·šūḇ דָּוִד֙ after David dā·wiḏ מֵהַכּ֣וֹת had killed mê·hak·kō·wṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י the Philistine , hap·pə·liš·tî הַנָּשִׁ֜ים the women han·nā·šîm וַתֵּצֶ֨אנָה came out wat·tê·ṣe·nāh מִכָּל־ of all mik·kāl עָרֵ֤י the cities ‘ā·rê יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiś·rā·’êl לִקְרַ֖את to meet liq·raṯ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ King ham·me·leḵ שָׁא֣וּל Saul šā·’ūl לָשׁוּר with singing lå̄·šūr וְהַמְּחֹל֔וֹת and dancing , wə·ham·mə·ḥō·lō·wṯ בְּשִׂמְחָ֖ה with joyful songs , bə·śim·ḥāh בְּתֻפִּ֥ים and with tambourines bə·ṯup·pîm וּבְשָׁלִשִֽׁים׃ and other instruments . ū·ḇə·šā·li·šîm 1 Samuel 18:7 הַֽמְשַׂחֲק֖וֹת And as the women danced ham·śa·ḥă·qō·wṯ
