1 Samuel 17:39 דָּוִ֣ד David dā·wiḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיַּחְגֹּ֣ר strapped way·yaḥ·gōr חַ֠רְבּוֹ his sword ḥar·bōw מֵעַ֨ל over mê·‘al לְמַדָּ֜יו the tunic lə·mad·dāw וַיֹּ֣אֶל and tried way·yō·’el לָלֶכֶת֮ to walk , lā·le·ḵeṯ כִּ֣י but kî לֹֽא־ he was not lō- נִסָּה֒ accustomed [to them] . nis·sāh לֹ֥א “ I cannot lō אוּכַ֛ל . . . ’ū·ḵal לָלֶ֥כֶת walk lā·le·ḵeṯ בָּאֵ֖לֶּה in these , ” bā·’êl·leh כִּ֣י . . . kî דָּוִ֜ד David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- שָׁא֗וּל Saul . šā·’ūl לֹ֣א “ I am not lō נִסִּ֑יתִי accustomed [to them] . ” nis·sî·ṯî דָּוִ֖ד So David dā·wiḏ וַיְסִרֵ֥ם took them way·si·rêm מֵעָלָֽיו׃ off . mê·‘ā·lāw 1 Samuel 17:40 וַיִּקַּ֨ח And [David] took way·yiq·qaḥ מַקְל֜וֹ his staff maq·lōw בְּיָד֗וֹ in his hand , bə·yā·ḏōw וַיִּבְחַר־ selected way·yiḇ·ḥar- ל֣וֹ lōw חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה five ḥă·miš·šāh חַלֻּקֵֽי־ smooth ḥal·lu·qê- אֲבָנִ֣ים׀ stones ’ă·ḇā·nîm מִן־ from min- הַנַּ֡חַל the brook , han·na·ḥal וַיָּ֣שֶׂם and put way·yā·śem אֹ֠תָם them ’ō·ṯām וּבַיַּלְק֖וּט in the pouch ū·ḇay·yal·qūṭ הָרֹעִ֧ים of his shepherd’s hā·rō·‘îm אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- ל֛וֹ lōw בִּכְלִ֨י bag . biḵ·lî וְקַלְּע֣וֹ And with his sling wə·qal·lə·‘ōw בְיָד֑וֹ in hand , ḇə·yā·ḏōw וַיִּגַּ֖שׁ he approached way·yig·gaš אֶל־ . . . ’el- הַפְּלִשְׁתִּֽי׃ the Philistine . hap·pə·liš·tî 1 Samuel 17:41 הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י Now the Philistine hap·pə·liš·tî הֹלֵ֥ךְ . . . hō·lêḵ וַיֵּ֙לֶךְ֙ came way·yê·leḵ וְקָרֵ֖ב closer wə·qā·rêḇ אֶל־ and closer to ’el- דָּוִ֑ד David , dā·wiḏ וְהָאִ֛ישׁ with his shield-bearer wə·hā·’îš נֹשֵׂ֥א . . . nō·śê הַצִּנָּ֖ה . . . haṣ·ṣin·nāh לְפָנָֽיו׃ before him . lə·p̄ā·nāw 1 Samuel 17:42 הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י When the Philistine hap·pə·liš·tî וַיַּבֵּ֧ט looked way·yab·bêṭ וַיִּרְאֶ֥ה and saw way·yir·’eh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דָּוִ֖ד David , dā·wiḏ וַיִּבְזֵ֑הוּ he despised him way·yiḇ·zê·hū כִּֽי־ because kî- הָיָ֣ה he was hā·yāh נַ֔עַר just a boy , na·‘ar וְאַדְמֹנִ֖י ruddy wə·’aḏ·mō·nî עִם־ and ‘im- יְפֵ֥ה handsome yə·p̄êh מַרְאֶֽה׃ . . . . mar·’eh 1 Samuel 17:43 אָנֹ֔כִי “ Am I ’ā·nō·ḵî הֲכֶ֣לֶב a dog , ” hă·ḵe·leḇ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּי֙ he hap·pə·liš·tî וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- דָּוִ֔ד David , dā·wiḏ כִּֽי־ “ that kî- אַתָּ֥ה you ’at·tāh בָֽא־ come ḇā- אֵלַ֖י at me ’ê·lay בַּמַּקְל֑וֹת with sticks ?” bam·maq·lō·wṯ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֛י And the Philistine hap·pə·liš·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיְקַלֵּ֧ל cursed way·qal·lêl דָּוִ֖ד David dā·wiḏ בֵּאלֹהָֽיו׃ by his gods . bê·lō·hāw
