1 Samuel 13:16 וְשָׁא֞וּל Now Saul wə·šā·’ūl וְיוֹנָתָ֣ן and Jonathan wə·yō·w·nā·ṯān בְּנ֗וֹ his son bə·nōw וְהָעָם֙ and the troops wə·hā·‘ām הַנִּמְצָ֣א . . . han·nim·ṣā עִמָּ֔ם with them ‘im·mām יֹשְׁבִ֖ים were staying yō·šə·ḇîm בְּגֶ֣בַע in Geba bə·ḡe·ḇa‘ בִּנְיָמִ֑ן of Benjamin , bin·yā·min וּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים while the Philistines ū·p̄ə·liš·tîm חָנ֥וּ camped ḥā·nū בְמִכְמָֽשׂ׃ at Michmash . ḇə·miḵ·māś 1 Samuel 13:17 הַמַּשְׁחִ֛ית And raiders ham·maš·ḥîṯ וַיֵּצֵ֧א went out way·yê·ṣê פְלִשְׁתִּ֖ים of the Philistine p̄ə·liš·tîm מִמַּחֲנֵ֥ה camp mim·ma·ḥă·nêh שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה in three šə·lō·šāh רָאשִׁ֑ים divisions . rā·šîm אֶחָ֥ד One ’e·ḥāḏ הָרֹ֨אשׁ - hā·rōš יִפְנֶ֛ה headed yip̄·neh אֶל־ toward ’el- עָפְרָ֖ה Ophrah ‘ā·p̄ə·rāh דֶּ֥רֶךְ - de·reḵ אֶל־ - ’el- אֶ֥רֶץ in the land ’e·reṣ שׁוּעָֽל׃ of Shual , šū·‘āl 1 Samuel 13:18 אֶחָד֙ another ’e·ḥāḏ וְהָרֹ֤אשׁ - wə·hā·rōš יִפְנֶ֔ה - yip̄·neh חֹר֑וֹן toward Beth-horon ḥō·rō·wn דֶּ֖רֶךְ - de·reḵ בֵּ֣ית , bêṯ וְהָרֹ֨אשׁ and the [third] wə·hā·rōš אֶחָ֤ד . . . ’e·ḥāḏ יִפְנֶה֙ - yip̄·neh הַגְּב֔וּל down the border hag·gə·ḇūl דֶּ֣רֶךְ road de·reḵ הַנִּשְׁקָ֛ף overlooking han·niš·qāp̄ עַל־ . . . ‘al- גֵּ֥י the Valley gê הַצְּבֹעִ֖ים of Zeboim haṣ·ṣə·ḇō·‘îm הַמִּדְבָּֽרָה׃ס facing the wilderness . ham·miḏ·bā·rāh 1 Samuel 13:19 לֹ֣א And no lō וְחָרָשׁ֙ blacksmith wə·ḥā·rāš יִמָּצֵ֔א could be found yim·mā·ṣê בְּכֹ֖ל in all bə·ḵōl אֶ֣רֶץ the land ’e·reṣ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel , yiś·rā·’êl כִּֽי־ because kî- פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים the Philistines p̄ə·liš·tîm אָמַר had said , ʾå̄·mar הָעִבְרִ֔ים “ The Hebrews hā·‘iḇ·rîm פֶּ֚ן must not be allowed pen יַעֲשׂ֣וּ to make ya·‘ă·śū חֶ֖רֶב swords ḥe·reḇ א֥וֹ or ’ōw חֲנִֽית׃ spears .” ḥă·nîṯ 1 Samuel 13:20 כָל־ Instead, all ḵāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl וַיֵּרְד֥וּ would go down way·yê·rə·ḏū הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים to the Philistines hap·pə·liš·tîm לִ֠לְטוֹשׁ to sharpen lil·ṭō·wōš אִ֣ישׁ . . . ’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מַחֲרַשְׁתּ֤וֹ their plowshares , ma·ḥă·raš·tōw וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- אֵתוֹ֙ mattocks , ’ê·ṯōw וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- קַרְדֻּמּ֔וֹ axes , qar·dum·mōw וְאֵ֖ת - wə·’êṯ מַחֲרֵשָׁתֽוֹ׃ and sickles . ma·ḥă·rê·šā·ṯōw 1 Samuel 13:21 הַפְּצִ֣ירָה The charge hap·pə·ṣî·rāh וְֽהָיְתָ֞ה was wə·hā·yə·ṯāh פִ֗ים a pim p̄îm לַמַּֽחֲרֵשֹׁת֙ for [sharpening] a plowshare lam·ma·ḥă·rê·šōṯ וְלָ֣אֵתִ֔ים or mattock , wə·lā·’ê·ṯîm וְלִשְׁלֹ֥שׁ a third [of a shekel] wə·liš·lōš קִלְּשׁ֖וֹן for [sharpening] a pitchfork qil·lə·šō·wn וּלְהַקַּרְדֻּמִּ֑ים or an axe , ū·lə·haq·qar·dum·mîm וּלְהַצִּ֖יב and [a third of a shekel] for repointing ū·lə·haṣ·ṣîḇ הַדָּרְבָֽן׃ an oxgoad . had·dā·rə·ḇān
