אִ֚ישׁ man ’îš חַ֔יִל of noble character ḥa·yil מִמִּשְׁפַּ֖חַת from the clan mim·miš·pa·ḥaṯ אֱלִימֶ֑לֶךְ of Elimelech , ’ĕ·lî·me·leḵ וּשְׁמ֖וֹ whose name ū·šə·mōw בֹּֽעַז׃ [was] Boaz . bō·‘az Ruth 2:2 ר֨וּת And Ruth rūṯ הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֜ה the Moabitess ham·mō·w·’ă·ḇî·yāh אֶֽל־ . . . ’el- וַתֹּאמֶר֩ said wat·tō·mer נָעֳמִ֗י to Naomi , nā·‘o·mî נָּ֤א “ Please nā אֵֽלְכָה־ let me go ’ê·lə·ḵāh- הַשָּׂדֶה֙ into the fields haś·śā·ḏeh וַאֲלַקֳטָּ֣ה and glean wa·ʾă·la·qoṭ·ṭå̄h בַשִׁבֳּלִ֔ים heads of grain ḇa·šib·bo·līm אַחַ֕ר after [someone] ’a·ḥar אֲשֶׁ֥ר in whose ’ă·šer בְּעֵינָ֑יו sight bə·‘ê·nāw אֶמְצָא־ I may find ’em·ṣā- חֵ֖ן favor . ” ḥên לְכִ֥י “ Go ahead , lə·ḵî בִתִּֽי׃ my daughter , ” ḇit·tî וַתֹּ֥אמֶר Naomi replied wat·tō·mer לָ֖הּ . lāh Ruth 2:3 וַתֵּ֤לֶךְ So Ruth departed wat·tê·leḵ וַתָּבוֹא֙ and went out wat·tā·ḇō·w בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה into the field baś·śā·ḏeh וַתְּלַקֵּ֣ט and gleaned wat·tə·laq·qêṭ אַחֲרֵ֖י after ’a·ḥă·rê הַקֹּצְרִ֑ים the harvesters . haq·qō·ṣə·rîm וַיִּ֣קֶר And she happened way·yi·qer מִקְרֶ֔הָ to come miq·re·hā חֶלְקַ֤ת to the part ḥel·qaṯ הַשָּׂדֶה֙ of the field haś·śā·ḏeh לְבֹ֔עַז [belonging] to Boaz , lə·ḇō·‘az אֲשֶׁ֖ר who [was] ’ă·šer מִמִּשְׁפַּ֥חַת from the clan mim·miš·pa·ḥaṯ אֱלִימֶֽלֶךְ׃ of Elimelech . ’ĕ·lî·me·leḵ Ruth 2:4 וְהִנֵּה־ Just then wə·hin·nêh- בֹ֗עַז Boaz ḇō·‘az בָּ֚א arrived bā מִבֵּ֣ית from mib·bêṯ לֶ֔חֶם Bethlehem le·ḥem וַיֹּ֥אמֶר and said way·yō·mer לַקּוֹצְרִ֖ים to the harvesters , laq·qō·wṣ·rîm יְהוָ֣ה “ YHWH Yah·weh עִמָּכֶ֑ם be with you . ” ‘im·mā·ḵem יְהוָֽה׃ “ YHWH Yah·weh יְבָרֶכְךָ֥ bless you , ” yə·ḇā·reḵ·ḵā וַיֹּ֥אמְרוּ they replied way·yō·mə·rū ל֖וֹ . lōw Ruth 2:5 בֹּ֙עַז֙ And Boaz bō·‘az וַיֹּ֤אמֶר asked way·yō·mer לְנַעֲר֔וֹ the foreman lə·na·‘ă·rōw הַנִּצָּ֖ב . . . han·niṣ·ṣāḇ עַל־ of ‘al- הַקּֽוֹצְרִ֑ים his harvesters , haq·qō·wṣ·rîm לְמִ֖י “ Whose lə·mî הַנַּעֲרָ֥ה young woman han·na·‘ă·rāh הַזֹּֽאת׃ is this ? ” haz·zōṯ Ruth 2:6 הַנַּ֛עַר The foreman han·na·‘ar הַנִּצָּ֥ב . . . han·niṣ·ṣāḇ עַל־ . . . ‘al- הַקּוֹצְרִ֖ים . . . haq·qō·wṣ·rîm וַיֹּאמַ֑ר . . . way·yō·mar וַיַּ֗עַן answered , way·ya·‘an הִ֔יא “ She [is] hî מֽוֹאֲבִיָּה֙ the Moabitess mō·w·’ă·ḇî·yāh נַעֲרָ֤ה . . . na·‘ă·rāh הַשָּׁ֥בָה who returned haš·šā·ḇāh עִֽם־ with ‘im- נָעֳמִ֖י Naomi nā·‘o·mî מִשְּׂדֵ֥ה from the land miś·śə·ḏêh מוֹאָֽב׃ of Moab . mō·w·’āḇ Ruth 2:7 וַתֹּ֗אמֶר She has said , wat·tō·mer נָּא֙ ‘ Please nā אֲלַקֳטָה־ let me glean ’ă·la·qo·ṭāh- וְאָסַפְתִּ֣י and gather wə·’ā·sap̄·tî בָֽעֳמָרִ֔ים among the sheaves ḇā·‘o·mā·rîm אַחֲרֵ֖י after ’a·ḥă·rê הַקּוֹצְרִ֑ים the harvesters . ’ haq·qō·wṣ·rîm
