יֹסִ֔יף severely , yō·sîp̄ כִּ֣י if kî הַמָּ֔וֶת anything but death ham·mā·weṯ יַפְרִ֖יד separates yap̄·rîḏ בֵּינִ֥י you bê·nî וּבֵינֵֽךְ׃ and me . ” ū·ḇê·nêḵ Ruth 1:18 וַתֵּ֕רֶא When Naomi saw wat·tê·re כִּֽי־ that kî- הִ֖יא Ruth hî מִתְאַמֶּ֥צֶת was determined miṯ·’am·me·ṣeṯ לָלֶ֣כֶת to go lā·le·ḵeṯ אִתָּ֑הּ with her , ’it·tāh וַתֶּחְדַּ֖ל she stopped wat·teḥ·dal לְדַבֵּ֥ר trying to persuade her lə·ḏab·bêr אֵלֶֽיהָ׃ . . . . ’ê·le·hā Ruth 1:19 שְׁתֵּיהֶ֔ם So [Naomi and Ruth] šə·tê·hem וַתֵּלַ֣כְנָה traveled wat·tê·laḵ·nāh עַד־ until ‘aḏ- בֹּאָ֖נָה they came bō·’ā·nāh בֵּ֣ית to bêṯ לָ֑חֶם Bethlehem . lā·ḥem וַיְהִ֗י When they way·hî כְּבֹאָ֙נָה֙ entered kə·ḇō·’ā·nāh בֵּ֣ית vvv bêṯ לֶ֔חֶם Bethlehem , le·ḥem כָּל־ the whole kāl- הָעִיר֙ city hā·‘îr וַתֵּהֹ֤ם was stirred wat·tê·hōm עֲלֵיהֶ֔ן because of them , ‘ă·lê·hen וַתֹּאמַ֖רְנָה and the women [of the city] exclaimed , wat·tō·mar·nāh הֲזֹ֥את “ Can this hă·zōṯ נָעֳמִֽי׃ be Naomi ? ” nā·‘o·mî Ruth 1:20 אַל־ “ Do not ’al- תִּקְרֶ֥אנָה call tiq·re·nāh לִ֖י me lî נָעֳמִ֑י Naomi , ” nā·‘o·mî וַתֹּ֣אמֶר she replied wat·tō·mer אֲלֵיהֶ֔ן . . . . ’ă·lê·hen קְרֶ֤אןָ “ Call qə·re·nā לִי֙ me lî מָרָ֔א Mara , mā·rā כִּי־ because kî- שַׁדַּ֛י the Almighty šad·day הֵמַ֥ר has dealt quite bitterly hê·mar מְאֹֽד׃ . . . mə·’ōḏ לִ֖י with me . lî Ruth 1:21 אֲנִי֙ I ’ă·nî הָלַ֔כְתִּי went away hā·laḵ·tî מְלֵאָ֣ה full , mə·lê·’āh יְהוָ֑ה but YHWH Yah·weh הֱשִׁיבַ֣נִי has brought me back hĕ·šî·ḇa·nî וְרֵיקָ֖ם empty . wə·rê·qām לָ֣מָּה Why lām·māh תִקְרֶ֤אנָה call ṯiq·re·nāh לִי֙ me lî נָעֳמִ֔י Naomi ? nā·‘o·mî וַֽיהוָה֙ After all, YHWH Yah·weh עָ֣נָה has testified ‘ā·nāh בִ֔י against me , ḇî וְשַׁדַּ֖י and the Almighty wə·šad·day הֵ֥רַֽע has afflicted hê·ra‘ לִֽי׃ me . ” lî Ruth 1:22 נָעֳמִ֗י So Naomi nā·‘o·mî וַתָּ֣שָׁב returned wat·tā·šāḇ מִשְּׂדֵ֣י from the land miś·śə·ḏê מוֹאָ֑ב of Moab mō·w·’āḇ עִמָּ֔הּ with ‘im·māh הַשָּׁ֖בָה . . . haš·šā·ḇāh כַלָּתָהּ֙ her daughter-in-law ḵal·lā·ṯāh וְר֨וּת Ruth wə·rūṯ הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֤ה the Moabitess . ham·mō·w·’ă·ḇî·yāh וְהֵ֗מָּה And they wə·hêm·māh בָּ֚אוּ arrived bā·’ū בֵּ֣ית vvv bêṯ לֶ֔חֶם in Bethlehem le·ḥem בִּתְחִלַּ֖ת at the beginning biṯ·ḥil·laṯ שְׂעֹרִֽים׃ of the barley śə·‘ō·rîm קְצִ֥יר harvest . qə·ṣîr Ruth 2:1 וּֽלְנָעֳמִ֞י Now Naomi ū·lə·nā·‘o·mî מְיֻדָּע had a relative mə·yud·då̄ʿ לְאִישָׁ֗הּ on her husband’s side , lə·’î·šāh גִּבּ֣וֹר a prominent gib·bō·wr
