הָעִ֗יר the city , hā·‘îr הָעִיר֙ set it hā·‘îr תַּצִּ֤יתוּ on fire taṣ·ṣî·ṯū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בָּאֵ֔שׁ - . bā·’êš תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ Do ta·‘ă·śū יְהוָ֖ה as YHWH Yah·weh כִּדְבַ֥ר has commanded ! kiḏ·ḇar רְא֖וּ See , rə·’ū צִוִּ֥יתִי I have given you orders ṣiw·wî·ṯî אֶתְכֶֽם׃ - . ” ’eṯ·ḵem Joshua 8:9 יְהוֹשֻׁ֗עַ So Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיִּשְׁלָחֵ֣ם sent them out , way·yiš·lā·ḥêm וַיֵּֽלְכוּ֙ and they went way·yê·lə·ḵū אֶל־ to ’el- הַמַּאְרָ֔ב the place of ambush ham·ma’·rāḇ וַיֵּשְׁב֗וּ and lay in wait way·yê·šə·ḇū בֵּ֧ין between bên בֵּֽית־ vvv bêṯ- אֵ֛ל Bethel ’êl וּבֵ֥ין . . . ū·ḇên הָעַ֖י and Ai , hā·‘ay מִיָּ֣ם to the west mî·yām לָעָ֑י of Ai . lā·‘āy יְהוֹשֻׁ֛עַ But [Joshua] yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיָּ֧לֶן spent way·yā·len הַה֖וּא that ha·hū בַּלַּ֥יְלָה night bal·lay·lāh בְּת֥וֹךְ among bə·ṯō·wḵ הָעָֽם׃ the people . hā·‘ām Joshua 8:10 יְהוֹשֻׁ֙עַ֙ Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיַּשְׁכֵּ֤ם got up early way·yaš·kêm בַּבֹּ֔קֶר the next morning bab·bō·qer וַיִּפְקֹ֖ד and mobilized way·yip̄·qōḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָ֑ם [his men] , hā·‘ām ה֜וּא and he hū וְזִקְנֵ֧י and the elders wə·ziq·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיַּ֨עַל marched way·ya·‘al לִפְנֵ֥י before lip̄·nê הָעָ֖ם [them] hā·‘ām הָעָֽי׃ up to Ai . hā·‘āy Joshua 8:11 וְכָל־ Then all wə·ḵāl הָעָ֨ם the troops hā·‘ām הַמִּלְחָמָ֜ה . . . ham·mil·ḥā·māh אֲשֶׁ֣ר who [were] ’ă·šer אִתּ֗וֹ with him ’it·tōw עָלוּ֙ marched up ‘ā·lū וַֽיִּגְּשׁ֔וּ and approached way·yig·gə·šū הָעִ֑יר the city . hā·‘îr וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ They arrived way·yā·ḇō·’ū נֶ֣גֶד in front [of Ai] ne·ḡeḏ וַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙ and camped way·ya·ḥă·nū מִצְּפ֣וֹן to the north miṣ·ṣə·p̄ō·wn לָעַ֔י of it , lā·‘ay וְהַגַּ֖י with the valley wə·hag·gay בֵּינוֹ between them bē·nō וּבֵין־ . . . ū·ḇên- הָעָֽי׃ and the city . hā·‘āy Joshua 8:12 וַיִּקַּ֕ח Now Joshua had taken way·yiq·qaḥ כַּחֲמֵ֥שֶׁת about five ka·ḥă·mê·šeṯ אֲלָפִ֖ים thousand ’ă·lā·p̄îm אִ֑ישׁ men ’îš וַיָּ֨שֶׂם and set up way·yā·śem אוֹתָ֜ם - ’ō·w·ṯām אֹרֵ֗ב an ambush ’ō·rêḇ בֵּ֧ין between bên בֵּֽית־ vvv bêṯ- אֵ֛ל Bethel ’êl וּבֵ֥ין . . . ū·ḇên הָעַ֖י and Ai , hā·‘ay מִיָּ֥ם to the west mî·yām לָעִֽיר׃ of the city . lā·‘îr Joshua 8:13 הָעָ֜ם So the forces hā·‘ām אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיָּשִׂ֨ימוּ were stationed way·yā·śî·mū כָּל־ with the main kāl- הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֗ה camp ham·ma·ḥă·neh אֲשֶׁר֙ - ’ă·šer מִצְּפ֣וֹן to the north miṣ·ṣə·p̄ō·wn לָעִ֔יר of the city lā·‘îr וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- עֲקֵב֖וֹ and the rear guard ‘ă·qê·ḇōw מִיָּ֣ם to the west mî·yām
