וַיִּֽתְאַבְּל֥וּ mourned way·yiṯ·’ab·bə·lū מְאֹֽד׃ bitterly . mə·’ōḏ Numbers 14:40 בַבֹּ֔קֶר Early the next morning ḇab·bō·qer וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣מוּ they got up way·yaš·ki·mū וַיַּֽעֲל֥וּ and went up way·ya·‘ă·lū אֶל־ toward ’el- רֹאשׁ־ the ridge rōš- הָהָ֖ר of the hill country . hā·hār הִנֶּ֗נּוּ “ We have indeed hin·nen·nū כִּ֥י kî חָטָֽאנוּ׃ sinned , ” ḥā·ṭā·nū לֵאמֹ֑ר they said , lê·mōr וְעָלִ֛ינוּ “ but we will go wə·‘ā·lî·nū אֶל־ to ’el- הַמָּק֛וֹם the place ham·mā·qō·wm אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh אָמַ֥ר has promised . ” ’ā·mar Numbers 14:41 מֹשֶׁ֔ה But Moses mō·šeh וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said , way·yō·mer לָ֥מָּה “ Why lām·māh זֶּ֛ה . . . zeh אַתֶּ֥ם are you ’at·tem עֹבְרִ֖ים transgressing ‘ō·ḇə·rîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- פִּ֣י the commandment pî יְהוָ֑ה of YHWH ? Yah·weh וְהִ֖וא This wə·hi·w לֹ֥א will not lō תִצְלָֽח׃ succeed ! ṯiṣ·lāḥ Numbers 14:42 אַֽל־ Do not ’al- תַּעֲל֔וּ go up , ta·‘ă·lū וְלֹא֙ lest wə·lō תִּנָּ֣גְפ֔וּ you be struck down tin·nā·ḡə·p̄ū לִפְנֵ֖י by lip̄·nê אֹיְבֵיכֶֽם׃ your enemies , ’ō·yə·ḇê·ḵem כִּ֛י because kî יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh אֵ֥ין is not ’ên בְּקִרְבְּכֶ֑ם among you . bə·qir·bə·ḵem Numbers 14:43 כִּי֩ For kî שָׁם֙ there šām הָעֲמָלֵקִ֨י the Amalekites hā·‘ă·mā·lê·qî וְהַכְּנַעֲנִ֥י and Canaanites wə·hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם will face you , lip̄·nê·ḵem וּנְפַלְתֶּ֖ם and you will fall ū·nə·p̄al·tem בֶּחָ֑רֶב by the sword . be·ḥā·reḇ כִּֽי־ Because kî- עַל־ . . . ‘al- כֵּ֤ן . . . kên שַׁבְתֶּם֙ you have turned šaḇ·tem מֵאַחֲרֵ֣י away mê·’a·ḥă·rê יְהוָ֔ה from YHWH , Yah·weh יְהוָ֖ה [He] Yah·weh וְלֹא־ will not wə·lō- יִהְיֶ֥ה be yih·yeh עִמָּכֶֽם׃ with you . ” ‘im·mā·ḵem Numbers 14:44 וַיַּעְפִּ֕לוּ But they dared way·ya‘·pi·lū לַעֲל֖וֹת to go up la·‘ă·lō·wṯ אֶל־ to ’el- רֹ֣אשׁ the ridge rōš הָהָ֑ר of the hill country , hā·hār לֹא־ though neither lō- וּמֹשֶׁ֔ה Moses ū·mō·šeh וַאֲר֤וֹן [nor] the ark wa·’ă·rō·wn בְּרִית־ of the covenant bə·rîṯ- יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh מָ֖שׁוּ moved mā·šū מִקֶּ֥רֶב from miq·qe·reḇ הַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃ the camp . ham·ma·ḥă·neh Numbers 14:45 הָעֲמָלֵקִי֙ Then the Amalekites hā·‘ă·mā·lê·qî וְהַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֔י and Canaanites wə·hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî הַיֹּשֵׁ֖ב who lived hay·yō·šêḇ הַה֑וּא in that ha·hū בָּהָ֣ר part of the hill country bā·hār וַיֵּ֤רֶד came down , way·yê·reḏ וַיַּכּ֥וּם attacked them , way·yak·kūm וַֽיַּכְּת֖וּם and routed them way·yak·kə·ṯūm עַד־ all the way ‘aḏ- הַֽחָרְמָֽה׃פ to Hormah . ha·ḥā·rə·māh
