עוֹלָ֗ם for the ancient ‘ō·w·lām לִנְתִב֣וֹת paths : lin·ṯi·ḇō·wṯ אֵי־ ‘ Where ’ê- זֶ֨ה . . . zeh הַטּוֹב֙ [is] the good haṭ·ṭō·wḇ דֶ֤רֶךְ way ? ’ ḏe·reḵ וּלְכוּ־ Then walk ū·lə·ḵū- בָ֔הּ in it , ḇāh וּמִצְא֥וּ and you will find ū·miṣ·’ū מַרְגּ֖וֹעַ rest mar·gō·w·a‘ לְנַפְשְׁכֶ֑ם for your souls . lə·nap̄·šə·ḵem וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ But they said , way·yō·mə·rū לֹ֥א ‘ We will not lō נֵלֵֽךְ׃ walk in it ! ’ nê·lêḵ Jeremiah 6:17 וַהֲקִמֹתִ֤י I appointed wa·hă·qi·mō·ṯî צֹפִ֔ים watchmen ṣō·p̄îm עֲלֵיכֶם֙ over you [and said] , ‘ă·lê·ḵem הַקְשִׁ֖יבוּ ‘ Listen haq·šî·ḇū לְק֣וֹל for the sound lə·qō·wl שׁוֹפָ֑ר of the ram’s horn . ’ šō·w·p̄ār וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ But they answered , way·yō·mə·rū לֹ֥א ‘ We will not lō נַקְשִֽׁיב׃ listen ! ’ naq·šîḇ Jeremiah 6:18 לָכֵ֖ן Therefore lā·ḵên שִׁמְע֣וּ hear , šim·‘ū הַגּוֹיִ֑ם O nations , hag·gō·w·yim וּדְעִ֥י and learn , ū·ḏə·‘î עֵדָ֖ה O congregations , ‘ê·ḏāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲשֶׁר־ what will happen ’ă·šer- בָּֽם׃ to them . bām Jeremiah 6:19 שִׁמְעִ֣י Hear , šim·‘î הָאָ֔רֶץ O earth ! hā·’ā·reṣ הִנֵּ֨ה - hin·nêh אָנֹכִ֜י I ’ā·nō·ḵî מֵבִ֥יא am bringing mê·ḇî רָעָ֛ה disaster rā·‘āh אֶל־ on ’el- הַזֶּ֖ה this haz·zeh הָעָ֥ם people , hā·‘ām פְּרִ֣י the fruit pə·rî מַחְשְׁבוֹתָ֑ם of their own schemes , maḥ·šə·ḇō·w·ṯām כִּ֤י because kî לֹ֣א they have paid no lō הִקְשִׁ֔יבוּ attention hiq·šî·ḇū עַל־ to ‘al- דְּבָרַי֙ My word də·ḇā·ray וַיִּמְאֲסוּ־ and have rejected way·yim·’ă·sū- בָֽהּ׃ ḇāh וְתוֹרָתִ֖י My instruction . wə·ṯō·w·rā·ṯî Jeremiah 6:20 לָמָּה־ What use lām·māh- זֶּ֨ה . . . zeh לִ֤י to Me lî לְבוֹנָה֙ is frankincense lə·ḇō·w·nāh מִשְּׁבָ֣א from Sheba miš·šə·ḇā תָב֔וֹא . . . ṯā·ḇō·w הַטּ֖וֹב or sweet haṭ·ṭō·wḇ וְקָנֶ֥ה cane wə·qā·neh מֶרְחָ֑ק from a distant mer·ḥāq מֵאֶ֣רֶץ land ? mê·’e·reṣ עֹלֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙ Your burnt offerings ‘ō·lō·w·ṯê·ḵem לֹ֣א are not acceptable lō לְרָצ֔וֹן . . . ; lə·rā·ṣō·wn וְזִבְחֵיכֶ֖ם your sacrifices wə·ziḇ·ḥê·ḵem לֹא־ do not lō- עָ֥רְבוּ please ‘ā·rə·ḇū לִֽי׃ס Me . ” lî Jeremiah 6:21 לָכֵ֗ן Therefore lā·ḵên כֹּ֚ה this is what kōh יְהוָ֔ה YHWH Yah·weh הִנְנִ֥י . . . hin·nî אָמַ֣ר says : ’ā·mar נֹתֵ֛ן “ I will lay nō·ṯên מִכְשֹׁלִ֑ים stumbling blocks miḵ·šō·lîm אֶל־ before ’el- הַזֶּ֖ה this haz·zeh הָעָ֥ם people ; hā·‘ām אָב֨וֹת fathers ’ā·ḇō·wṯ וּבָנִ֥ים and sons ū·ḇā·nîm יַחְדָּ֛ו alike yaḥ·dāw וְכָ֣שְׁלוּ will be staggered wə·ḵā·šə·lū בָ֠ם ; ḇām וְרֵע֖וֹ friends wə·rê·‘ōw שָׁכֵ֥ן and neighbors šā·ḵên יֹאבֵדוּ׃פ will perish . ” yō·ḇē·ḏū
