Ecclesiastes 2:9 וְגָדַ֣לְתִּי So I became great wə·ḡā·ḏal·tî וְהוֹסַ֔פְתִּי and surpassed wə·hō·w·sap̄·tî מִכֹּ֛ל all mik·kōl בִּירוּשָׁלִָ֑ם in Jerusalem bî·rū·šā·lim שֶׁהָיָ֥ה who had preceded me še·hā·yāh לְפָנַ֖י . . . ; lə·p̄ā·nay אַ֥ף and ’ap̄ חָכְמָתִ֖י my wisdom ḥā·ḵə·mā·ṯî עָ֥מְדָה remained ‘ā·mə·ḏāh לִּֽי׃ with me . lî Ecclesiastes 2:10 וְכֹל֙ Anything wə·ḵōl אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer עֵינַ֔י my eyes ‘ê·nay שָֽׁאֲל֣וּ desired , šā·’ă·lū לֹ֥א I did not lō אָצַ֖לְתִּי deny myself . ’ā·ṣal·tî מֵהֶ֑ם . . . mê·hem מָנַ֨עְתִּי I refused mā·na‘·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לִבִּ֜י my heart lib·bî לֹֽא־ no lō- מִכָּל־ . . . mik·kāl שִׂמְחָ֗ה pleasure . śim·ḥāh כִּֽי־ For kî- לִבִּ֤י my heart lib·bî שָׂמֵ֙חַ֙ took delight śā·mê·aḥ מִכָּל־ in all mik·kāl עֲמָלִ֔י my work , ‘ă·mā·lî וְזֶֽה־ and this wə·zeh- הָיָ֥ה was hā·yāh חֶלְקִ֖י the reward ḥel·qî מִכָּל־ for all mik·kāl עֲמָלִֽי׃ my labor . ‘ă·mā·lî Ecclesiastes 2:11 אֲנִ֗י Yet when I ’ă·nî וּפָנִ֣יתִֽי considered ū·p̄ā·nî·ṯî בְּכָל־ all bə·ḵāl מַעֲשַׂי֙ the works ma·‘ă·śay יָדַ֔י that my hands yā·ḏay שֶֽׁעָשׂ֣וּ had accomplished še·‘ā·śū וּבֶֽעָמָ֖ל and [what] ū·ḇe·‘ā·māl שֶׁעָמַ֣לְתִּי I had toiled še·‘ā·mal·tî לַעֲשׂ֑וֹת to achieve , la·‘ă·śō·wṯ וְהִנֵּ֨ה I found wə·hin·nêh הַכֹּ֥ל everything hak·kōl הֶ֙בֶל֙ to be futile , he·ḇel וּרְע֣וּת a pursuit ū·rə·‘ūṯ ר֔וּחַ of the wind ; rū·aḥ וְאֵ֥ין there was nothing wə·’ên יִתְר֖וֹן to be gained yiṯ·rō·wn תַּ֥חַת under ta·ḥaṯ הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ the sun . haš·šā·meš Ecclesiastes 2:12 אֲנִי֙ Then I ’ă·nî וּפָנִ֤יתִֽי turned ū·p̄ā·nî·ṯî לִרְא֣וֹת to consider lir·’ō·wṯ חָכְמָ֔ה wisdom ḥāḵ·māh וְהוֹלֵל֖וֹת and madness wə·hō·w·lê·lō·wṯ וְסִכְל֑וּת and folly ; wə·siḵ·lūṯ כִּ֣י׀ for kî מֶ֣ה what [more] meh הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ can the king’s ham·me·leḵ הָאָדָ֗ם vvv hā·’ā·ḏām שֶׁיָּבוֹא֙ successor še·yā·ḇō·w אַחֲרֵ֣י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê אֵ֥ת - ’êṯ אֲשֶׁר־ do ’ă·šer- כְּבָ֖ר than what has already kə·ḇār עָשֽׂוּהוּ׃ been accomplished ? ‘ā·śū·hū Ecclesiastes 2:13 אָ֔נִי And I ’ā·nî וְרָאִ֣יתִי saw wə·rā·’î·ṯî שֶׁיֵּ֥שׁ that še·yêš לַֽחָכְמָ֖ה wisdom la·ḥā·ḵə·māh יִתְר֛וֹן exceeds yiṯ·rō·wn מִן־ . . . min- הַסִּכְל֑וּת folly , has·siḵ·lūṯ הָא֖וֹר just as light hā·’ō·wr כִּֽיתְר֥וֹן exceeds kî·ṯə·rō·wn מִן־ . . . min- הַחֹֽשֶׁךְ׃ darkness : ha·ḥō·šeḵ Ecclesiastes 2:14 הֶֽחָכָם֙ The wise he·ḥā·ḵām עֵינָ֣יו man has eyes ‘ê·nāw בְּרֹאשׁ֔וֹ in his head , bə·rō·šōw וְהַכְּסִ֖יל but the fool wə·hak·kə·sîl הוֹלֵ֑ךְ walks hō·w·lêḵ בַּחֹ֣שֶׁךְ in darkness . ba·ḥō·šeḵ אָ֔נִי Yet I ’ā·nî
