אִ֭ישׁ a man ’îš יֹ֣אכַל enjoys yō·ḵal ט֑וֹב good things , ṭō·wḇ וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ but the desire wə·ne·p̄eš בֹּגְדִ֣ים of the faithless bō·ḡə·ḏîm חָמָֽס׃ is violence . ḥā·mās Proverbs 13:3 נֹצֵ֣ר He who guards nō·ṣêr פִּ֭יו his mouth pîw שֹׁמֵ֣ר protects šō·mêr נַפְשׁ֑וֹ his life , nap̄·šōw פֹּשֵׂ֥ק [but] the one who opens pō·śêq שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו his lips p̄ā·ṯāw מְחִתָּה־ invites his own ruin mə·ḥit·tāh- לֽוֹ׃ . lōw Proverbs 13:4 עָצֵ֑ל The slacker ‘ā·ṣêl וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ . . . wə·ne·p̄eš מִתְאַוָּ֣ה craves miṯ·’aw·wāh וָ֭אַיִן yet [has] nothing , wā·’a·yin נַפְשׁ֣וֹ but the soul nap̄·šōw חָרֻצִ֣ים of the diligent ḥā·ru·ṣîm תְּדֻשָּֽׁן׃ is fully satisfied . tə·ḏuš·šān Proverbs 13:5 צַדִּ֑יק The righteous ṣad·dîq יִשְׂנָ֣א hate yiś·nā דְּבַר־ falsehood də·ḇa·rō·še- שֶׁ֭קֶר . . . , qer וְ֝רָשָׁ֗ע but the wicked wə·rā·šā‘ יַבְאִ֥ישׁ bring shame yaḇ·’îš וְיַחְפִּֽיר׃ and disgrace . wə·yaḥ·pîr Proverbs 13:6 צְ֭דָקָה Righteousness ṣə·ḏā·qāh תִּצֹּ֣ר guards tiṣ·ṣōr תָּם־ the man of integrity tām- דָּ֑רֶךְ . . . , dā·reḵ וְ֝רִשְׁעָ֗ה but wickedness wə·riš·‘āh תְּסַלֵּ֥ף undermines tə·sal·lêp̄ חַטָּֽאת׃ the sinner . ḥaṭ·ṭāṯ Proverbs 13:7 יֵ֣שׁ - yêš מִ֭תְעַשֵּׁר One pretends to be rich , miṯ·‘aš·šêr וְאֵ֣ין but has nothing wə·’ên כֹּ֑ל . . . ; kōl מִ֝תְרוֹשֵׁ֗שׁ another pretends to be poor , miṯ·rō·wō·šêš רָֽב׃ yet has great rāḇ וְה֣וֹן wealth . wə·hō·wn Proverbs 13:8 עָשְׁר֑וֹ Riches ‘ā·šə·rōw כֹּ֣פֶר may ransom kō·p̄er אִ֣ישׁ a man’s ’îš נֶֽפֶשׁ־ life , ne·p̄eš- וְ֝רָ֗שׁ but a poor wə·rāš שָׁמַ֥ע man hears šā·ma‘ לֹא־ no lō- גְּעָרָֽה׃ threat . gə·‘ā·rāh Proverbs 13:9 אוֹר־ The light ’ō·wr- צַדִּיקִ֥ים of the righteous ṣad·dî·qîm יִשְׂמָ֑ח shines brightly , yiś·māḥ וְנֵ֖ר but the lamp wə·nêr רְשָׁעִ֣ים of the wicked rə·šā·‘îm יִדְעָֽךְ׃ is extinguished . yiḏ·‘āḵ Proverbs 13:10 בְּ֭זָדוֹן Arrogance bə·zā·ḏō·wn יִתֵּ֣ן leads yit·tên רַק־ only raq- מַצָּ֑ה to strife , maṣ·ṣāh חָכְמָֽה׃ but wisdom ḥāḵ·māh וְאֶת־ is with wə·’eṯ- נ֖וֹעָצִ֣ים the well-advised . nō·w·‘ā·ṣîm Proverbs 13:11 מֵהֶ֣בֶל Dishonest mê·he·ḇel ה֭וֹן wealth hō·wn יִמְעָ֑ט will dwindle , yim·‘āṭ וְקֹבֵ֖ץ but what is earned wə·qō·ḇêṣ עַל־ through ‘al- יָ֣ד hard work yāḏ יַרְבֶּֽה׃ will be multiplied . yar·beh
