בֵּרַ֔כְתָּ You have blessed bê·raḵ·tā מַעֲשֵׂ֤ה the work ma·‘ă·śêh יָדָיו֙ of his hands , yā·ḏāw וּמִקְנֵ֖הוּ and his possessions ū·miq·nê·hū פָּרַ֥ץ have increased pā·raṣ בָּאָֽרֶץ׃ in the land . bā·’ā·reṣ Job 1:11 וְאוּלָם֙ But wə·’ū·lām שְֽׁלַֽח־ stretch out šə·laḥ- נָ֣א . . . nā יָֽדְךָ֔ Your hand yā·ḏə·ḵā וְגַ֖ע and strike wə·ḡa‘ בְּכָל־ all bə·ḵāl אֲשֶׁר־ that ’ă·šer- ל֑וֹ he has , lōw אִם־ and he will surely ’im- לֹ֥א . . . lō יְבָרֲכֶֽךָּ׃ curse You yə·ḇā·ră·ḵe·kā עַל־ to ‘al- פָּנֶ֖יךָ Your face .” pā·ne·ḵā Job 1:12 הִנֵּ֤ה “ Very well , ” hin·nêh וַיֹּ֨אמֶר said way·yō·mer יְהוָ֜ה YHWH Yah·weh אֶל־ to ’el- הַשָּׂטָ֗ן Satan . haś·śā·ṭān כָל־ “ Everything ḵāl אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- לוֹ֙ he has [is] lōw בְּיָדֶ֔ךָ in your hands , bə·yā·ḏe·ḵā רַ֣ק but raq אַל־ you must not ’al- תִּשְׁלַ֖ח lay tiš·laḥ יָדֶ֑ךָ a hand yā·ḏe·ḵā אֵלָ֔יו on the man himself . ” ’ê·lāw הַשָּׂטָ֔ן Then Satan haś·śā·ṭān מֵעִ֖ם . . . mê·‘im וַיֵּצֵא֙ went out way·yê·ṣê פְּנֵ֥י from the presence pə·nê יְהוָֽה׃ of YHWH . Yah·weh Job 1:13 וַיְהִ֖י - way·hî הַיּ֑וֹם One day , hay·yō·wm וּבָנָ֨יו while Job’s sons ū·ḇā·nāw וּבְנֹתָ֤יו and daughters ū·ḇə·nō·ṯāw אֹֽכְלִים֙ were eating ’ō·ḵə·lîm וְשֹׁתִ֣ים and drinking wə·šō·ṯîm יַ֔יִן wine ya·yin הַבְּכֽוֹר׃ in their oldest hab·bə·ḵō·wr אֲחִיהֶ֥ם brother’s ’ă·ḥî·hem בְּבֵ֖ית house , bə·ḇêṯ Job 1:14 וּמַלְאָ֛ךְ a messenger ū·mal·’āḵ בָּ֥א came bā וַיֹּאמַ֑ר and reported way·yō·mar אֶל־ to ’el- אִיּ֖וֹב Job : ’î·yō·wḇ הַבָּקָר֙ “ While the oxen hab·bā·qār הָי֣וּ were hā·yū חֹֽרְשׁ֔וֹת plowing ḥō·rə·šō·wṯ וְהָאֲתֹנ֖וֹת and the donkeys wə·hā·’ă·ṯō·nō·wṯ רֹע֥וֹת were grazing rō·‘ō·wṯ עַל־ nearby ‘al- יְדֵיהֶֽם׃ . . . , yə·ḏê·hem Job 1:15 שְׁבָא֙ the Sabeans šə·ḇā וַתִּפֹּ֤ל swooped down wat·tip·pōl וַתִּקָּחֵ֔ם and took them away . wat·tiq·qā·ḥêm וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- הִכּ֣וּ They put hik·kū הַנְּעָרִ֖ים the servants han·nə·‘ā·rîm לְפִי־ vvv lə·p̄î- חָ֑רֶב to the sword , ḥā·reḇ אֲנִ֛י and I ’ă·nî לְבַדִּ֖י alone lə·ḇad·dî וָֽאִמָּ֨לְטָ֧ה have escaped wā·’im·mā·lə·ṭāh רַק־ . . . raq- לְהַגִּ֥יד to tell lə·hag·gîḏ לָֽךְ׃ you !” lāḵ Job 1:16 זֶ֣ה While he zeh ע֣וֹד׀ was still ‘ō·wḏ מְדַבֵּ֗ר speaking , mə·ḏab·bêr וְזֶה֮ another wə·zeh בָּ֣א messenger came bā וַיֹּאמַר֒ and reported : way·yō·mar אֵ֣שׁ “ The fire ’êš אֱלֹהִ֗ים of God ’ĕ·lō·hîm
