מַשְׁחִ֖ית ravaging maš·ḥîṯ בְּכָל־ every bə·ḵāl גְּב֣וּל part gə·ḇūl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל of Israel . ’ yiś·rā·’êl וְעַתָּ֣ה Now then , wə·‘at·tāh רְאֵ֔ה decide rə·’êh מָֽה־ how māh- אָשִׁ֥יב I should reply ’ā·šîḇ דָּבָֽר׃פ . . . dā·ḇār אֶת־ ’eṯ- שֹׁלְחִ֖י to Him who sent me . ” šō·lə·ḥî 1 Chronicles 21:13 דָּוִ֛יד David dā·wîḏ אֶל־ . . . ’el- וַיֹּ֧אמֶר answered way·yō·mer גָּ֖ד Gad , gāḏ צַר־ “ I am deeply distressed ṣar- לִ֣י . . . lî מְאֹ֑ד . . . . mə·’ōḏ נָּ֣א Please , nā אֶפְּלָה־ let me fall ’ep·pə·lāh- בְיַד־ into the hand ḇə·yaḏ- יְהוָ֗ה of YHWH , Yah·weh כִּֽי־ for kî- רַחֲמָיו֙ His mercies [are] ra·ḥă·māw מְאֹ֔ד very mə·’ōḏ רַבִּ֤ים great ; rab·bîm אַל־ but do not ’al- אֶפֹּֽל׃ let me fall ’ep·pōl וּבְיַד־ into the hands ū·ḇə·yaḏ- אָדָ֖ם of men . ” ’ā·ḏām 1 Chronicles 21:14 יְהוָ֛ה So YHWH Yah·weh וַיִּתֵּ֧ן sent way·yit·tên דֶּ֖בֶר a plague de·ḇer בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל upon Israel , bə·yiś·rā·’êl שִׁבְעִ֥ים and seventy šiḇ·‘îm אֶ֖לֶף thousand ’e·lep̄ אִֽישׁ׃ men ’îš מִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel mî·yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּפֹּל֙ fell dead . way·yip·pōl 1 Chronicles 21:15 הָאֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ Then God hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ sent way·yiš·laḥ מַלְאָ֥ךְ׀ an angel mal·’āḵ לְהַשְׁחִיתָהּ֒ to destroy lə·haš·ḥî·ṯāh לִֽירוּשָׁלִַם֮ Jerusalem , lî·rū·šā·lim וּכְהַשְׁחִ֗ית but as the angel was doing so , ū·ḵə·haš·ḥîṯ יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh רָאָ֤ה saw it rā·’āh וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם and relented way·yin·nā·ḥem עַל־ from ‘al- הָֽרָעָ֔ה the calamity , hā·rā·‘āh וַיֹּ֨אמֶר and He said way·yō·mer לַמַּלְאָ֤ךְ to the angel lam·mal·’āḵ הַמַּשְׁחִית֙ who was destroying the people , ham·maš·ḥîṯ רַ֔ב “ Enough ! raḇ הֶ֣רֶף Withdraw he·rep̄ יָדֶ֑ךָ your hand yā·ḏe·ḵā עַתָּ֖ה now ! ” ‘at·tāh וּמַלְאַ֤ךְ At that time the angel ū·mal·’aḵ יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh עֹמֵ֔ד was standing ‘ō·mêḏ עִם־ by ‘im- גֹּ֖רֶן the threshing floor gō·ren אָרְנָ֥ן of Ornan ’ā·rə·nān הַיְבוּסִֽי׃ס the Jebusite . hay·ḇū·sî 1 Chronicles 21:16 דָוִ֜יד When David ḏā·wîḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּשָּׂ֨א lifted up way·yiś·śā עֵינָ֗יו his eyes ‘ê·nāw וַיַּ֞רְא and saw way·yar אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מַלְאַ֤ךְ the angel mal·’aḵ יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh עֹמֵ֗ד standing ‘ō·mêḏ בֵּ֤ין between bên הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם heaven haš·šā·ma·yim וּבֵ֣ין and ū·ḇên הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ earth , hā·’ā·reṣ שְׁלוּפָה֙ with a drawn šə·lū·p̄āh וְחַרְבּ֤וֹ sword wə·ḥar·bōw בְּיָד֔וֹ in his hand bə·yā·ḏōw נְטוּיָ֖ה stretched out nə·ṭū·yāh עַל־ over ‘al- יְרוּשָׁלִָ֑ם Jerusalem , yə·rū·šā·lim דָּוִ֧יד David dā·wîḏ וְהַזְּקֵנִ֛ים and the elders , wə·haz·zə·qê·nîm מְכֻסִּ֥ים clothed mə·ḵus·sîm בַּשַּׂקִּ֖ים in sackcloth , baś·śaq·qîm וַיִּפֹּ֨ל fell way·yip·pōl
