לֹ֣א did not lō הֶאֱמִ֔ינוּ believe he·’ĕ·mî·nū בַּֽיהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃ their God . ’ĕ·lō·hê·hem 2 Kings 17:15 וַיִּמְאֲס֣וּ They rejected way·yim·’ă·sū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- חֻקָּ֗יו His statutes ḥuq·qāw וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- בְּרִיתוֹ֙ and the covenant bə·rî·ṯōw אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer כָּרַ֣ת He had made kā·raṯ אֶת־ with ’eṯ- אֲבוֹתָ֔ם their fathers , ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯām וְאֵת֙ - wə·’êṯ עֵֽדְוֺתָ֔יו as well as the decrees ‘ê·ḏə·wō·ṯāw אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer הֵעִ֖יד He had given hê·‘îḏ בָּ֑ם them . bām וַיֵּ֨לְכ֜וּ They pursued way·yê·lə·ḵū אַחֲרֵ֤י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê הַהֶ֙בֶל֙ worthless idols ha·he·ḇel וַיֶּהְבָּ֔לוּ and themselves became worthless , way·yeh·bā·lū וְאַחֲרֵ֤י going after wə·’a·ḥă·rê סְבִֽיבֹתָ֔ם the surrounding sə·ḇî·ḇō·ṯām אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer הַגּוֹיִם֙ nations hag·gō·w·yim אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh אֹתָ֔ם - ’ō·ṯām צִוָּ֤ה had commanded them ṣiw·wāh לְבִלְתִּ֖י not lə·ḇil·tî עֲשׂ֥וֹת to imitate ‘ă·śō·wṯ כָּהֶֽם׃ . kā·hem 2 Kings 17:16 וַיַּעַזְב֗וּ They abandoned way·ya·‘az·ḇū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ all kāl- מִצְוֺת֙ the commandments miṣ·wōṯ יְהוָ֣ה of YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵיהֶ֔ם their God ’ĕ·lō·hê·hem וַיַּעֲשׂ֥וּ and made way·ya·‘ă·śū לָהֶ֛ם for themselves lā·hem שְׁנֵים two šə·nēm מַסֵּכָ֖ה cast idols mas·sê·ḵāh עֲגָלִ֑ים of calves ‘ă·ḡā·lîm וַיַּעֲשׂ֣וּ . . . way·ya·‘ă·śū אֲשֵׁירָ֗ה and an Asherah pole . ’ă·šê·rāh וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ֙ They bowed down to way·yiš·ta·ḥă·wū לְכָל־ all lə·ḵāl צְבָ֣א the host ṣə·ḇā הַשָּׁמַ֔יִם of heaven haš·šā·ma·yim וַיַּעַבְד֖וּ and served way·ya·‘aḇ·ḏū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַבָּֽעַל׃ Baal . hab·bā·‘al 2 Kings 17:17 וַֽ֠יַּעֲבִירוּ They sacrificed way·ya·‘ă·ḇî·rū בְּנֵיהֶ֤ם their sons bə·nê·hem וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- בְּנֽוֹתֵיהֶם֙ and daughters bə·nō·w·ṯê·hem אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בָּאֵ֔שׁ in the fire bā·’êš וַיִּקְסְמ֥וּ and practiced way·yiq·sə·mū קְסָמִ֖ים divination qə·sā·mîm וַיְנַחֵ֑שׁוּ and soothsaying . way·na·ḥê·šū וַיִּֽתְמַכְּר֗וּ They devoted themselves way·yiṯ·mak·kə·rū לַעֲשׂ֥וֹת to doing la·‘ă·śō·wṯ הָרַ֛ע evil hā·ra‘ בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the sight bə·‘ê·nê יְהוָ֖ה of YHWH , Yah·weh לְהַכְעִיסֽוֹ׃ provoking Him to anger . lə·haḵ·‘î·sōw 2 Kings 17:18 יְהוָ֤ה So YHWH Yah·weh מְאֹד֙ was very mə·’ōḏ וַיִּתְאַנַּ֨ף angry way·yiṯ·’an·nap̄ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל with Israel , bə·yiś·rā·’êl וַיְסִרֵ֖ם and He removed them way·si·rêm מֵעַ֣ל from mê·‘al פָּנָ֑יו His presence . pā·nāw לֹ֣א . . . lō רַ֛ק Only raq שֵׁ֥בֶט the tribe šê·ḇeṭ יְהוּדָ֖ה of Judah yə·hū·ḏāh לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ . . . lə·ḇad·dōw נִשְׁאַ֔ר remained , niš·’ar 2 Kings 17:19 גַּם־ and even gam- יְהוּדָ֕ה Judah yə·hū·ḏāh לֹ֣א did not lō שָׁמַ֔ר keep šā·mar
