לִשְׁלֹמֹ֗ה to Solomon , liš·lō·mōh יַ֚עַן “ Because ya·‘an אֲשֶׁ֣ר - ’ă·šer הָֽיְתָה־ you have done hā·yə·ṯāh- עִמָּ֔ךְ . . . ‘im·māḵ זֹּ֣את this zōṯ וְלֹ֤א and have not wə·lō שָׁמַ֙רְתָּ֙ kept šā·mar·tā בְּרִיתִ֣י My covenant bə·rî·ṯî וְחֻקֹּתַ֔י and My statutes , wə·ḥuq·qō·ṯay אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ’ă·šer צִוִּ֖יתִי I have commanded ṣiw·wî·ṯî עָלֶ֑יךָ you , ‘ā·le·ḵā אֶקְרַ֤ע I will tear ’eq·ra‘ הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ the kingdom ham·mam·lā·ḵāh קָרֹ֨עַ away qā·rō·a‘ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ from you mê·‘ā·le·ḵā אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וּנְתַתִּ֖יהָ and give it ū·nə·ṯat·tî·hā לְעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ to your servant . lə·‘aḇ·de·ḵā 1 Kings 11:12 אַךְ־ Nevertheless , ’aḵ- לְמַ֖עַן for the sake lə·ma·‘an אָבִ֑יךָ of your father ’ā·ḇî·ḵā דָּוִ֣ד David , dā·wiḏ לֹ֣א I will not lō אֶעֱשֶׂ֔נָּה do ’e·‘ĕ·śen·nāh בְּיָמֶ֙יךָ֙ it during your lifetime ; bə·yā·me·ḵā אֶקְרָעֶֽנָּה׃ I will tear it ’eq·rā·‘en·nāh מִיַּ֥ד out of the hand mî·yaḏ בִּנְךָ֖ of your son . bin·ḵā 1 Kings 11:13 רַ֤ק Yet raq אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לֹ֣א I will not lō כָּל־ {tear} the whole kāl- הַמַּמְלָכָה֙ kingdom ham·mam·lā·ḵāh אֶקְרָ֔ע away from him . ’eq·rā‘ אֶתֵּ֣ן I will give ’et·tên אֶחָ֖ד one ’e·ḥāḏ שֵׁ֥בֶט tribe šê·ḇeṭ לִבְנֶ֑ךָ to your son liḇ·ne·ḵā לְמַ֙עַן֙ for the sake lə·ma·‘an עַבְדִּ֔י of My servant ‘aḇ·dî דָּוִ֣ד David dā·wiḏ וּלְמַ֥עַן and for the sake ū·lə·ma·‘an יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם of Jerusalem , yə·rū·šā·lim אֲשֶׁ֥ר which ’ă·šer בָּחָֽרְתִּי׃ I have chosen . ” bā·ḥā·rə·tî 1 Kings 11:14 יְהוָ֤ה Then YHWH Yah·weh וַיָּ֨קֶם raised up way·yā·qem לִשְׁלֹמֹ֔ה against Solomon liš·lō·mōh שָׂטָן֙ an adversary , śā·ṭān הֲדַ֣ד Hadad hă·ḏaḏ הָאֲדֹמִ֑י the Edomite , hā·’ă·ḏō·mî אֵ֖ת - ’êṯ ה֖וּא - hū הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ from the royal ham·me·leḵ מִזֶּ֧רַע line miz·ze·ra‘ בֶּאֱדֽוֹם׃ of Edom . be·’ĕ·ḏō·wm 1 Kings 11:15 וַיְהִ֗י Earlier , way·hî דָּוִד֙ when David dā·wiḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בִּֽהְי֤וֹת was bih·yō·wṯ אֱד֔וֹם in Edom , ’ĕ·ḏō·wm יוֹאָב֙ Joab yō·w·’āḇ שַׂ֣ר the commander śar הַצָּבָ֔א of the army haṣ·ṣā·ḇā בַּעֲל֗וֹת had gone ba·‘ă·lō·wṯ לְקַבֵּ֖ר to bury lə·qab·bêr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַחֲלָלִ֑ים the dead ha·ḥă·lā·lîm וַיַּ֥ךְ and had struck down way·yaḵ כָּל־ every kāl- זָכָ֖ר male zā·ḵār בֶּאֱדֽוֹם׃ in Edom . be·’ĕ·ḏō·wm 1 Kings 11:16 כִּ֣י - kî יוֹאָ֖ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl יָֽשַׁב־ had stayed yā·šaḇ- שָׁ֥ם there šām שֵׁ֧שֶׁת six šê·šeṯ חֳדָשִׁ֛ים months , ḥo·ḏā·šîm עַד־ until ‘aḏ- הִכְרִ֥ית he had killed hiḵ·rîṯ כָּל־ every kāl-
