אֶל־ to ’el- אַבְשָׁלֹ֑ם Absalom , ’aḇ·šā·lōm אֶבְחֲרָ֣ה “ Let me choose ’eḇ·ḥă·rāh נָּ֗א . . . nā שְׁנֵים־ twelve šə·nêm- עָשָׂ֥ר . . . ‘ā·śār אֶ֙לֶף֙ thousand ’e·lep̄ אִ֔ישׁ men ’îš וְאָק֛וּמָה and set out wə·’ā·qū·māh הַלָּֽיְלָה׃ tonight hal·lā·yə·lāh וְאֶרְדְּפָ֥ה in pursuit of wə·’er·də·p̄āh אַחֲרֵי־ . . . ’a·ḥă·rê- דָוִ֖ד David . ḏā·wiḏ 2 Samuel 17:2 וְאָב֣וֹא I will attack him wə·’ā·ḇō·w עָלָ֗יו . . . ‘ā·lāw וְה֤וּא while he wə·hū וּרְפֵ֣ה is weak ū·rə·p̄êh יָדַ֔יִם . . . yā·ḏa·yim יָגֵ֙עַ֙ and weary ; yā·ḡê·a‘ וְהַֽחֲרַדְתִּ֣י I will throw him into a panic , wə·ha·ḥă·raḏ·tî אֹת֔וֹ - ’ō·ṯōw כָּל־ and all kāl- הָעָ֣ם the people hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- אִתּ֑וֹ with him ’it·tōw וְנָ֖ס will flee ; wə·nās וְהִכֵּיתִ֥י I will strike down wə·hik·kê·ṯî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- לְבַדּֽוֹ׃ only lə·ḇad·dōw הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ the king ham·me·leḵ 2 Samuel 17:3 כָל־ and bring all ḵāl הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām וְאָשִׁ֥יבָה back wə·’ā·šî·ḇāh אֵלֶ֑יךָ to you ’ê·le·ḵā הַכֹּ֔ל as a bride hak·kōl כְּשׁ֣וּב returning to her husband . kə·šūḇ אַתָּ֣ה You ’at·tāh מְבַקֵּ֔שׁ seek the life mə·ḇaq·qêš הָאִישׁ֙ of only one man hā·’îš אֲשֶׁ֣ר . . . ; ’ă·šer כָּל־ then all kāl- הָעָ֖ם the people hā·‘ām יִהְיֶ֥ה will be yih·yeh שָׁלֽוֹם׃ at peace . ” šā·lō·wm 2 Samuel 17:4 הַדָּבָ֖ר This proposal had·dā·ḇār בְּעֵינֵ֣י seemed bə·‘ê·nê וַיִּישַׁ֥ר good way·yî·šar אַבְשָׁלֹ֑ם to Absalom ’aḇ·šā·lōm וּבְעֵינֵ֖י . . . ū·ḇə·‘ê·nê כָּל־ and all kāl- זִקְנֵ֥י the elders ziq·nê יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ס of Israel . yiś·rā·’êl 2 Samuel 17:5 אַבְשָׁל֔וֹם Then Absalom ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said , way·yō·mer קְרָ֣א “ Summon qə·rā נָ֔א . . . nā לְחוּשַׁ֣י Hushai lə·ḥū·šay הָאַרְכִּ֑י the Archite hā·’ar·kî גַּ֖ם as well , gam וְנִשְׁמְעָ֥ה and let us hear wə·niš·mə·‘āh מַה־ what mah- הֽוּא׃ he hū גַּם־ too gam- בְּפִ֖יו has to say . ” bə·p̄îw 2 Samuel 17:6 חוּשַׁי֮ So Hushai ḥū·šay וַיָּבֹ֣א came way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- אַבְשָׁלוֹם֒ Absalom , ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm אַבְשָׁל֨וֹם [who] ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm אֵלָ֜יו . . . ’ê·lāw לֵאמֹ֗ר . . . lê·mōr וַיֹּאמֶר֩ told him , way·yō·mer אֲחִיתֹ֔פֶל “ Ahithophel ’ă·ḥî·ṯō·p̄el דִּבֶּ֣ר has spoken dib·ber הַזֶּה֙ this haz·zeh כַּדָּבָ֤ר proposal . kad·dā·ḇār הֲנַעֲשֶׂ֖ה Should we carry it out hă·na·‘ă·śeh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- דְּבָר֑וֹ - ? də·ḇā·rōw אִם־ If ’im- אַ֖יִן not , ’a·yin אַתָּ֥ה what do you ’at·tāh דַבֵּֽר׃ס say ? ” ḏab·bêr
