וַיֹּ֣אמֶר answered way·yō·mer אֲבִישַׁ֔י Abishai . ’ă·ḇî·šay 1 Samuel 26:7 לַיְלָה֒ That night lay·lāh דָוִ֨ד David ḏā·wiḏ וַאֲבִישַׁ֥י׀ and Abishai wa·’ă·ḇî·šay וַיָּבֹא֩ came way·yā·ḇō אֶל־ to ’el- הָעָם֮ the troops , hā·‘ām שָׁא֗וּל and Saul šā·’ūl שֹׁכֵ֤ב was lying šō·ḵêḇ וְהִנֵּ֣ה there wə·hin·nêh יָשֵׁן֙ asleep yā·šên בַּמַּעְגָּ֔ל in the inner circle of the camp , bam·ma‘·gāl וַחֲנִית֥וֹ with his spear wa·ḥă·nî·ṯōw מְעוּכָֽה־ stuck mə·‘ū·ḵāh- בָאָ֖רֶץ in the ground ḇā·’ā·reṣ מְרַאֲשֹׁתוֹ by his head . mə·ra·ʾă·šō·ṯō וְאַבְנֵ֣ר And Abner wə·’aḇ·nêr וְהָעָ֔ם and the troops wə·hā·‘ām שֹׁכְבִ֖ים were lying šō·ḵə·ḇîm סְבִיבֹתוֹ׃ס around him . sə·ḇī·ḇō·ṯō 1 Samuel 26:8 אֲבִישַׁי֙ Abishai ’ă·ḇî·šay וַיֹּ֤אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- דָּוִ֔ד David , dā·wiḏ הַיּ֛וֹם “ Today hay·yō·wm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֱלֹהִ֥ים God ’ĕ·lō·hîm סִגַּ֨ר has delivered sig·gar אוֹיִבְךָ֖ your enemy ’ō·w·yiḇ·ḵā בְּיָדֶ֑ךָ into your hand . bə·yā·ḏe·ḵā וְעַתָּה֩ Now, therefore, wə·‘at·tāh נָ֜א please nā בַּחֲנִ֤ית let me thrust the spear ba·ḥă·nîṯ אַכֶּ֨נּוּ through him ’ak·ken·nū וּבָאָ֙רֶץ֙ into the ground ū·ḇā·’ā·reṣ אַחַ֔ת with one ’a·ḥaṯ פַּ֣עַם stroke . pa·‘am וְלֹ֥א I will not wə·lō אֶשְׁנֶ֖ה need to strike him twice ’eš·neh לֽוֹ׃ . . . !” lōw 1 Samuel 26:9 דָּוִ֛ד But David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- אֲבִישַׁ֖י Abishai , ’ă·ḇî·šay אַל־ “ Do not ’al- תַּשְׁחִיתֵ֑הוּ destroy him , taš·ḥî·ṯê·hū כִּ֠י for kî מִ֣י who mî שָׁלַ֥ח can lift šā·laḥ יָד֛וֹ a hand yā·ḏōw יְהוָ֖ה against YHWH’s Yah·weh בִּמְשִׁ֥יחַ anointed bim·šî·aḥ וְנִקָּֽה׃פ and be guiltless ?” wə·niq·qāh 1 Samuel 26:10 דָּוִד֙ David dā·wiḏ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר added , way·yō·mer יְהוָ֔ה “ As surely as YHWH Yah·weh חַי־ lives , ḥay- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Himself Yah·weh כִּ֥י . . . kî אִם־ . . . ’im- יִגָּפֶ֑נּוּ will strike him down ; yig·gā·p̄en·nū אֽוֹ־ either ’ōw- יוֹמ֤וֹ his day yō·w·mōw יָבוֹא֙ will come yā·ḇō·w וָמֵ֔ת and he will die , wā·mêṯ א֧וֹ or ’ōw יֵרֵ֖ד he will go yê·rêḏ בַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה into battle ḇam·mil·ḥā·māh וְנִסְפָּֽה׃ and perish . wə·nis·pāh 1 Samuel 26:11 מֵֽיהוָ֔ה But YHWH Yah·weh חָלִ֤ילָה forbid ḥā·lî·lāh לִּי֙ that I lî מִשְּׁלֹ֥חַ should stretch out miš·šə·lō·aḥ יָדִ֖י my hand yā·ḏî יְהוָ֑ה against YHWH’s Yah·weh בִּמְשִׁ֣יחַ anointed . bim·šî·aḥ וְ֠עַתָּה Instead , wə·‘at·tāh קַח־ take qaḥ- נָ֨א . . . nā אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- הַחֲנִ֜ית the spear ha·ḥă·nîṯ אֲשֶׁ֧ר - ’ă·šer הַמַּ֖יִם and water ham·ma·yim צַפַּ֥חַת jug ṣap·pa·ḥaṯ
