1 Samuel 17:7 וְחָץ The shaft wə·ḥå̄ṣ חֲנִית֗וֹ of his spear ḥă·nî·ṯōw אֹֽרְגִ֔ים was like a weaver’s ’ō·rə·ḡîm כִּמְנוֹר֙ beam , kim·nō·wr בַּרְזֶ֑ל and its iron bar·zel וְלַהֶ֣בֶת point wə·la·he·ḇeṯ חֲנִית֔וֹ - ḥă·nî·ṯōw שֵׁשׁ־ [weighed] six šêš- מֵא֥וֹת hundred mê·’ō·wṯ שְׁקָלִ֖ים shekels . šə·qā·lîm וְנֹשֵׂ֥א In addition, his shield bearer wə·nō·śê הַצִּנָּ֖ה . . . haṣ·ṣin·nāh הֹלֵ֥ךְ went hō·lêḵ לְפָנָֽיו׃ before him . lə·p̄ā·nāw 1 Samuel 17:8 וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֗ד And [Goliath] stood way·ya·‘ă·mōḏ וַיִּקְרָא֙ and shouted way·yiq·rā אֶל־ to ’el- מַעַרְכֹ֣ת the ranks ma·‘ar·ḵōṯ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר - way·yō·mer לָהֶ֔ם , lā·hem לָ֥מָּה “ Why lām·māh תֵצְא֖וּ do you come out ṯê·ṣə·’ū לַעֲרֹ֣ךְ and array yourselves la·‘ă·rōḵ מִלְחָמָ֑ה for battle ? mil·ḥā·māh אָנֹכִ֣י Am I ’ā·nō·ḵî הֲל֧וֹא not hă·lō·w הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗י a Philistine , hap·pə·liš·tî וְאַתֶּם֙ and are you wə·’at·tem עֲבָדִ֣ים not servants ‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm לְשָׁא֔וּל of Saul ? lə·šā·’ūl בְּרוּ־ Choose bə·rū- לָכֶ֥ם lā·ḵem אִ֖ישׁ one of your men ’îš וְיֵרֵ֥ד and have him come down wə·yê·rêḏ אֵלָֽי׃ against me . ’ê·lāy 1 Samuel 17:9 אִם־ If ’im- יוּכַ֞ל he is able yū·ḵal לְהִלָּחֵ֤ם to fight lə·hil·lā·ḥêm אִתִּי֙ me ’it·tî וְהִכָּ֔נִי and kill me , wə·hik·kā·nî וְהָיִ֥ינוּ then we will be wə·hā·yî·nū לָכֶ֖ם your lā·ḵem לַעֲבָדִ֑ים servants . la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm וְאִם־ But if wə·’im- אֲנִ֤י I ’ă·nî אֽוּכַל־ prevail ’ū·ḵal- לוֹ֙ against him lōw וְהִכִּיתִ֔יו and kill him , wə·hik·kî·ṯîw וִהְיִ֤יתֶם then you shall be wih·yî·ṯem לָ֙נוּ֙ our lā·nū לַעֲבָדִ֔ים servants la·‘ă·ḇā·ḏîm וַעֲבַדְתֶּ֖ם and labor wa·‘ă·ḇaḏ·tem אֹתָֽנוּ׃ for us .” ’ō·ṯā·nū 1 Samuel 17:10 הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔י Then the Philistine hap·pə·liš·tî וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ said , way·yō·mer אֲנִ֗י “ I ’ă·nî חֵרַ֛פְתִּי defy ḥê·rap̄·tî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מַעַרְכ֥וֹת the ranks ma·‘ar·ḵō·wṯ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl הַזֶּ֑ה this haz·zeh הַיּ֣וֹם day ! hay·yō·wm תְּנוּ־ Give tə·nū- לִ֣י me lî אִ֔ישׁ a man ’îš וְנִֽלָּחֲמָ֖ה to fight wə·nil·lā·ḥă·māh יָֽחַד׃ . . . !” yā·ḥaḏ 1 Samuel 17:11 וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע On hearing way·yiš·ma‘ הָאֵ֑לֶּה the hā·’êl·leh דִּבְרֵ֥י words diḇ·rê הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י of the Philistine , hap·pə·liš·tî שָׁאוּל֙ Saul šā·’ūl וְכָל־ and all wə·ḵāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיֵּחַ֥תּוּ were dismayed way·yê·ḥat·tū מְאֹֽד׃פ and greatly mə·’ōḏ וַיִּֽרְא֖וּ afraid . way·yir·’ū 1 Samuel 17:12 וְדָוִד֩ Now David wə·ḏā·wiḏ בֶּן־ was the son ben- אִ֨ישׁ of a man ’îš וּשְׁמ֣וֹ named ū·šə·mōw יִשַׁ֔י Jesse , yi·šay אֶפְרָתִ֜י an Ephrathite ’ep̄·rā·ṯî
