ק֥וּם “ Rise qūm מְשָׁחֵ֖הוּ [and] anoint him , mə·šā·ḥê·hū כִּֽי־ for kî- הֽוּא׃ he hū זֶ֥ה is the one .” zeh 1 Samuel 16:13 שְׁמוּאֵ֜ל So Samuel šə·mū·’êl אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּקַּ֨ח took way·yiq·qaḥ קֶ֣רֶן the horn qe·ren הַשֶּׁ֗מֶן of oil haš·še·men וַיִּמְשַׁ֣ח and anointed way·yim·šaḥ אֹתוֹ֮ him ’ō·ṯōw בְּקֶ֣רֶב in the presence bə·qe·reḇ אֶחָיו֒ of his brothers , ’e·ḥāw רֽוּחַ־ and the Spirit rū·aḥ- יְהוָה֙ of YHWH Yah·weh וַתִּצְלַ֤ח rushed wat·tiṣ·laḥ אֶל־ upon ’el- דָּוִ֔ד David dā·wiḏ הַה֖וּא from that ha·hū מֵהַיּ֥וֹם day mê·hay·yō·wm וָמָ֑עְלָה forward . wā·mā·‘ə·lāh שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל Then Samuel šə·mū·’êl וַיָּ֣קָם set out way·yā·qām וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ and went way·yê·leḵ הָרָמָֽתָה׃ס to Ramah . hā·rā·mā·ṯāh 1 Samuel 16:14 וְר֧וּחַ After the Spirit wə·rū·aḥ יְהוָ֛ה of YHWH Yah·weh סָ֖רָה had departed sā·rāh מֵעִ֣ם from mê·‘im שָׁא֑וּל Saul , šā·’ūl רֽוּחַ־ a spirit rū·aḥ- רָעָ֖ה of distress rā·‘āh מֵאֵ֥ת from mê·’êṯ יְהוָֽה׃ YHWH Yah·weh וּבִֽעֲתַ֥תּוּ began to torment him . ū·ḇi·‘ă·ṯat·tū 1 Samuel 16:15 שָׁא֖וּל Saul’s šā·’ūl עַבְדֵֽי־ servants ‘aḇ·ḏê- וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ said way·yō·mə·rū אֵלָ֑יו to him , ’ê·lāw הִנֵּה־ “ Surely hin·nêh- נָ֧א . . . nā רֽוּחַ־ a spirit rū·aḥ- רָעָ֖ה of distress rā·‘āh אֱלֹהִ֛ים from God ’ĕ·lō·hîm מְבַעִתֶּֽךָ׃ is tormenting you . mə·ḇa·‘it·te·ḵā 1 Samuel 16:16 אֲדֹנֵ֙נוּ֙ Let our lord ’ă·ḏō·nê·nū יֹאמַר־ command yō·mar- נָ֤א . . . nā עֲבָדֶ֣יךָ your servants ‘ă·ḇā·ḏe·ḵā לְפָנֶ֔יךָ here lə·p̄ā·ne·ḵā יְבַקְשׁ֕וּ to seek out yə·ḇaq·šū אִ֕ישׁ someone ’îš יֹדֵ֖עַ who can skillfully yō·ḏê·a‘ מְנַגֵּ֣ן play mə·nag·gên בַּכִּנּ֑וֹר the harp . bak·kin·nō·wr וְהָיָ֗ה . . . wə·hā·yāh בִּֽהְי֨וֹת Whenever bih·yō·wṯ רֽוּחַ־ the spirit rū·aḥ- רָעָ֔ה of distress rā·‘āh אֱלֹהִים֙ from God ’ĕ·lō·hîm עָלֶ֤יךָ is upon you , ‘ā·le·ḵā וְנִגֵּ֥ן he is to play it , wə·nig·gên בְּיָד֖וֹ . . . bə·yā·ḏōw לָֽךְ׃פ and you lāḵ וְט֥וֹב [will be] well . ” wə·ṭō·wḇ 1 Samuel 16:17 שָׁא֖וּל And Saul šā·’ūl וַיֹּ֥אמֶר commanded way·yō·mer אֶל־ his ’el- עֲבָדָ֑יו servants , ‘ă·ḇā·ḏāw רְאוּ־ “ Find rə·’ū- נָ֣א . . . nā לִ֗י me lî אִ֚ישׁ someone ’îš לְנַגֵּ֔ן who plays lə·nag·gên מֵיטִ֣יב well , mê·ṭîḇ וַהֲבִיאוֹתֶ֖ם and bring [him] wa·hă·ḇî·’ō·w·ṯem אֵלָֽי׃ to me .” ’ê·lāy 1 Samuel 16:18 אֶחָ֨ד One ’e·ḥāḏ מֵהַנְּעָרִ֜ים of the servants mê·han·nə·‘ā·rîm וַיֹּ֗אמֶר . . . way·yō·mer הִנֵּ֨ה . . . hin·nêh
