וַיֹּ֨אמֶר answered , way·yō·mer הָעָם֙ “ The troops hā·‘ām עַל־ . . . ‘al- הֱבִיא֗וּם brought them hĕ·ḇî·’ūm אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer מֵעֲמָלֵקִ֣י from the Amalekites ; mê·‘ă·mā·lê·qî חָמַ֤ל they spared ḥā·mal מֵיטַ֤ב the best mê·ṭaḇ הַצֹּאן֙ sheep haṣ·ṣōn וְהַבָּקָ֔ר and cattle wə·hab·bā·qār לְמַ֥עַן to lə·ma·‘an זְבֹ֖חַ sacrifice zə·ḇō·aḥ לַיהוָ֣ה to YHWH Yah·weh אֱלֹהֶ֑יךָ your God , ’ĕ·lō·he·ḵā וְאֶת־ but wə·’eṯ- הַיּוֹתֵ֖ר the rest hay·yō·w·ṯêr הֶחֱרַֽמְנוּ׃ס we devoted to destruction .” he·ḥĕ·ram·nū 1 Samuel 15:16 הֶ֚רֶף “ Stop ! ” he·rep̄ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר exclaimed way·yō·mer שְׁמוּאֵל֙ Samuel šə·mū·’êl אֶל־ - ’el- שָׁא֔וּל - . šā·’ūl וְאַגִּ֣ידָה “ Let me tell wə·’ag·gî·ḏāh לְּךָ֔ you lə·ḵā אֵת֩ - ’êṯ אֲשֶׁ֨ר what ’ă·šer יְהוָ֛ה YHWH Yah·weh דִּבֶּ֧ר said dib·ber אֵלַ֖י to me ’ê·lay הַלָּ֑יְלָה last night .” hal·lā·yə·lāh דַּבֵּֽר׃ס “ Tell me , ” dab·bêr וַיֹּאמְרוּ Saul replied way·yō·mə·rū ל֖וֹ . lōw 1 Samuel 15:17 שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל And Samuel šə·mū·’êl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said , way·yō·mer אִם־ “ Although ’im- אַתָּה֙ you [were once] ’at·tāh קָטֹ֤ן small qā·ṭōn בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ in your own eyes , bə·‘ê·ne·ḵā אָ֑תָּה have you ’āt·tāh הֲל֗וֹא not hă·lō·w רֹ֛אשׁ become the head rōš שִׁבְטֵ֥י of the tribes šiḇ·ṭê יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל of Israel ? yiś·rā·’êl יְהוָ֛ה YHWH Yah·weh וַיִּמְשָׁחֲךָ֧ anointed way·yim·šā·ḥă·ḵā לְמֶ֖לֶךְ you king lə·me·leḵ עַל־ over ‘al- יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ Israel yiś·rā·’êl 1 Samuel 15:18 וַיִּשְׁלָחֲךָ֥ and sent way·yiš·lā·ḥă·ḵā יְהוָ֖ה . . . Yah·weh בְּדָ֑רֶךְ you on a mission , bə·ḏā·reḵ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר saying , way·yō·mer לֵ֣ךְ ‘ Go lêḵ וְהַחֲרַמְתָּ֞ה and devote to destruction wə·ha·ḥă·ram·tāh אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַֽחַטָּאִים֙ the sinful ha·ḥaṭ·ṭā·’îm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עֲמָלֵ֔ק Amalekites . ‘ă·mā·lêq וְנִלְחַמְתָּ֣ Fight wə·nil·ḥam·tā ב֔וֹ against them ḇōw עַ֥ד until ‘aḏ כַּלּוֹתָ֖ם you have wiped them out kal·lō·w·ṯām אֹתָֽם׃ - .’ ’ō·ṯām 1 Samuel 15:19 וְלָ֥מָּה So why wə·lām·māh לֹא־ did you not lō- שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ obey šā·ma‘·tā בְּק֣וֹל . . . bə·qō·wl יְהוָ֑ה YHWH ? Yah·weh וַתַּ֙עַט֙ Why did you rush wat·ta·‘aṭ אֶל־ upon ’el- הַשָּׁלָ֔ל the plunder haš·šā·lāl וַתַּ֥עַשׂ and do wat·ta·‘aś הָרַ֖ע evil hā·ra‘ בְּעֵינֵ֥י in the sight bə·‘ê·nê יְהוָֽה׃ס of YHWH ?” Yah·weh 1 Samuel 15:20 שָׁמַ֙עְתִּי֙ “ But I did obey šā·ma‘·tî בְּק֣וֹל . . . bə·qō·wl יְהוָ֔ה YHWH , ” Yah·weh שָׁא֜וּל Saul šā·’ūl אֶל־ - ’el- שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל - šə·mū·’êl אֲשֶׁ֤ר - ’ă·šer וַיֹּ֨אמֶר replied . way·yō·mer וָאֵלֵ֕ךְ “ I went wā·’ê·lêḵ
