ל֔וֹ to him lōw לַאֲג֥וֹרַת for a piece la·’ă·ḡō·w·raṯ כֶּ֖סֶף of silver ke·sep̄ וְכִכַּר־ or a morsel wə·ḵik·kar- לָ֑חֶם of bread , lā·ḥem וְאָמַ֗ר pleading , wə·’ā·mar נָ֛א “ Please nā סְפָחֵ֥נִי appoint me sə·p̄ā·ḥê·nî אֶל־ to ’el- אַחַ֥ת some ’a·ḥaṯ הַכְּהֻנּ֖וֹת priestly office hak·kə·hun·nō·wṯ לֶאֱכֹ֥ל so that I can eat le·’ĕ·ḵōl פַּת־ a piece paṯ- לָֽחֶם׃ס of bread .” ’” lā·ḥem 1 Samuel 3:1 וְהַנַּ֧עַר And the boy wə·han·na·‘ar שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל Samuel šə·mū·’êl מְשָׁרֵ֥ת ministered mə·šā·rêṯ אֶת־ to ’eṯ- יְהוָ֖ה YHWH Yah·weh לִפְנֵ֣י before lip̄·nê עֵלִ֑י Eli . ‘ê·lî הָהֵ֔ם Now in those hā·hêm בַּיָּמִ֣ים days bay·yā·mîm וּדְבַר־ the word ū·ḏə·ḇar- יְהוָ֗ה of YHWH Yah·weh הָיָ֤ה was hā·yāh יָקָר֙ rare yā·qār חָז֖וֹן and visions ḥā·zō·wn אֵ֥ין were ’ên נִפְרָֽץ׃ס scarce . nip̄·rāṣ 1 Samuel 3:2 וַֽיְהִי֙ And way·hî בַּיּ֣וֹם at that time bay·yō·wm הַה֔וּא . . . ha·hū וְעֵלִ֖י Eli , wə·‘ê·lî וְעֵינוֹ whose eyesight wə·ʿē·nō הֵחֵ֣לּוּ vvv hê·ḥêl·lū כֵה֔וֹת had grown so dim ḵê·hō·wṯ יוּכַ֖ל that he could yū·ḵal לֹ֥א not lō לִרְאֽוֹת׃ see , lir·’ō·wṯ שֹׁכֵ֣ב was lying šō·ḵêḇ בִּמְקֹמ֑וֹ in his room . bim·qō·mō 1 Samuel 3:3 טֶ֣רֶם Before ṭe·rem וְנֵ֤ר the lamp wə·nêr אֱלֹהִים֙ of God ’ĕ·lō·hîm יִכְבֶּ֔ה had gone out , yiḵ·beh וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל Samuel ū·šə·mū·’êl שֹׁכֵ֑ב was lying down šō·ḵêḇ בְּהֵיכַ֣ל in the temple bə·hê·ḵal יְהוָ֔ה of YHWH , Yah·weh אֲשֶׁר־ where ’ă·šer- אֲר֥וֹן the ark ’ă·rō·wn אֱלֹהִֽים׃פ of God ’ĕ·lō·hîm שָׁ֖ם was located . šām 1 Samuel 3:4 יְהוָ֛ה Then YHWH Yah·weh אֶל־ . . . ’el- וַיִּקְרָ֧א called way·yiq·rā שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל to Samuel , šə·mū·’êl וַיֹּ֥אמֶר and he answered , way·yō·mer הִנֵּֽנִי׃ “ Here I am .” hin·nê·nî 1 Samuel 3:5 וַיָּ֣רָץ He ran way·yā·rāṣ אֶל־ to ’el- עֵלִ֗י Eli ‘ê·lî וַיֹּ֤אמֶר and said , way·yō·mer הִנְנִי֙ “ Here I am , hin·nî כִּֽי־ for kî- קָרָ֣אתָ you have called qā·rā·ṯā לִּ֔י me .” lî לֹֽא־ “ I did not lō- קָרָ֖אתִי call , ” qā·rā·ṯî וַיֹּ֥אמֶר Eli replied . way·yō·mer שׁ֣וּב “ Go back šūḇ שְׁכָ֑ב and lie down . ” šə·ḵāḇ וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ So he went way·yê·leḵ וַיִּשְׁכָּֽב׃ס and lay down . way·yiš·kāḇ 1 Samuel 3:6 וַיֹּ֣סֶף Once again way·yō·sep̄ עוֹד֮ . . . ‘ō·wḏ יְהוָ֗ה YHWH Yah·weh קְרֹ֣א called , qə·rō שְׁמוּאֵל֒ “ Samuel !” šə·mū·’êl שְׁמוּאֵל֙ So Samuel šə·mū·’êl וַיָּ֤קָם got up , way·yā·qām
