Ruth 4:4 וַאֲנִ֨י I wa·’ă·nî אָמַ֜רְתִּי thought ’ā·mar·tî אֶגְלֶ֧ה I should inform ’eḡ·leh אָזְנְךָ֣ you ’ā·zə·nə·ḵā לֵאמֹ֗ר that lê·mōr קְ֠נֵה you may buy it back qə·nêh נֶ֥גֶד in the presence of ne·ḡeḏ הַֽיֹּשְׁבִים֮ those seated here hay·yō·šə·ḇîm וְנֶ֣גֶד and in the presence of wə·ne·ḡeḏ זִקְנֵ֣י the elders ziq·nê עַמִּי֒ of my people . ‘am·mî אִם־ If ’im- תִּגְאַל֙ you want to redeem it , tiḡ·’al גְּאָ֔ל do so . gə·’āl וְאִם־ But if you wə·’im- לֹ֨א will not lō יִגְאַ֜ל redeem [it] , yiḡ·’al הַגִּ֣ידָה tell hag·gî·ḏāh לִּ֗י me lî וְאֵדַע so I may know , wə·ʾē·ḏaʿ כִּ֣י because kî אֵ֤ין [there is] no one ’ên זוּלָֽתְךָ֙ but you zū·lā·ṯə·ḵā לִגְא֔וֹל to redeem [it] , liḡ·’ō·wl וְאָנֹכִ֖י and I [am] wə·’ā·nō·ḵî אַחֲרֶ֑יךָ next after you . ” ’a·ḥă·re·ḵā אָנֹכִ֥י “ I ’ā·nō·ḵî אֶגְאָֽל׃ will redeem [it] , ” ’eḡ·’āl וַיֹּ֖אמֶר he replied . way·yō·mer Ruth 4:5 בֹּ֔עַז Then Boaz bō·‘az וַיֹּ֣אמֶר said , way·yō·mer בְּיוֹם־ “ On the day bə·yō·wm- קְנוֹתְךָ֥ you buy qə·nō·wṯ·ḵā הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה the land haś·śā·ḏeh מִיַּ֣ד from mî·yaḏ נָעֳמִ֑י Naomi nā·‘o·mî וּ֠מֵאֵת and also from ū·mê·’êṯ ר֣וּת Ruth rūṯ הַמּוֹאֲבִיָּ֤ה the Moabitess , ham·mō·w·’ă·ḇî·yāh קָנִיתִי you must also acquire qå̄·nī·ṯī אֵֽשֶׁת־ the widow ’ê·šeṯ- הַמֵּת֙ of the deceased ham·mêṯ לְהָקִ֥ים in order to raise lə·hā·qîm שֵׁם־ up the name šêm- הַמֵּ֖ת of the deceased ham·mêṯ עַל־ on ‘al- נַחֲלָתֽוֹ׃ his inheritance . ” na·ḥă·lā·ṯōw Ruth 4:6 הַגֹּאֵ֗ל The kinsman-redeemer hag·gō·’êl וַיֹּ֣אמֶר replied , way·yō·mer לֹ֤א “ I cannot lō אוּכַל֙ . . . ’ū·ḵal לִגְאוֹל redeem it liḡ·ʾōl לִ֔י myself , פֶּן־ or pen- אַשְׁחִ֖ית I would jeopardize ’aš·ḥîṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- נַחֲלָתִ֑י my own inheritance . na·ḥă·lā·ṯî גְּאֻלָּתִ֔י Take my right of redemption gə·’ul·lā·ṯî גְּאַל־ . . . gə·’al- לְךָ֤ . . . lə·ḵā אַתָּה֙ . . . ’at·tāh אֶת־ - , ’eṯ- כִּ֥י because kî לֹא־ I cannot lō- אוּכַ֖ל . . . ’ū·ḵal לִגְאֹֽל׃ redeem it . ” liḡ·’ōl Ruth 4:7 וְזֹאת֩ Now wə·zōṯ לְפָנִ֨ים in former times lə·p̄ā·nîm בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֜ל in Israel , bə·yiś·rā·’êl עַל־ concerning ‘al- הַגְּאוּלָּ֤ה the redemption hag·gə·’ūl·lāh וְעַל־ . . . wə·‘al- הַתְּמוּרָה֙ or exchange of property , hat·tə·mū·rāh כָּל־ to make any kāl- דָּבָ֔ר matter dā·ḇār לְקַיֵּ֣ם legally binding lə·qay·yêm אִ֛ישׁ a man ’îš שָׁלַ֥ף would remove šā·lap̄ נַעֲל֖וֹ his sandal na·‘ă·lōw וְנָתַ֣ן and give it wə·nā·ṯan לְרֵעֵ֑הוּ to the other party , lə·rê·‘ê·hū וְזֹ֥את and this [was] wə·zōṯ הַתְּעוּדָ֖ה a confirmation hat·tə·‘ū·ḏāh בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ in Israel . bə·yiś·rā·’êl Ruth 4:8 הַגֹּאֵ֛ל So the kinsman-redeemer hag·gō·’êl וַיִּשְׁלֹ֖ף removed way·yiš·lōp̄
