בִּנְיָמִן֙ the Benjamites bin·yā·min וַיִּ֤פֶן looked way·yi·p̄en אַחֲרָ֔יו behind them ’a·ḥă·rāw וְהִנֵּ֛ה and saw wə·hin·nêh כְלִיל־ the whole ḵə·lîl- הָעִ֖יר city hā·‘îr עָלָ֥ה going up ‘ā·lāh הַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃ in smoke . haš·šā·mā·yə·māh Judges 20:41 וְאִ֤ישׁ Then the men wə·’îš יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiś·rā·’êl הָפַ֔ךְ turned back on them , hā·p̄aḵ אִ֣ישׁ and the men ’îš בִּנְיָמִ֑ן of Benjamin bin·yā·min וַיִּבָּהֵ֖ל were terrified way·yib·bā·hêl כִּ֣י when kî רָאָ֔ה they realized rā·’āh כִּֽי־ that kî- הָרָעָֽה׃ disaster hā·rā·‘āh נָגְעָ֥ה had come nā·ḡə·‘āh עָלָ֖יו upon them . ‘ā·lāw Judges 20:42 וַיִּפְנ֞וּ So they fled way·yip̄·nū לִפְנֵ֨י before lip̄·nê אִ֤ישׁ the men ’îš יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiś·rā·’êl אֶל־ toward ’el- דֶּ֣רֶךְ . . . de·reḵ הַמִּדְבָּ֔ר the wilderness , ham·miḏ·bār וְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה but the battle wə·ham·mil·ḥā·māh הִדְבִּיקָ֑תְהוּ overtook them , hiḏ·bî·qā·ṯə·hū וַאֲשֶׁר֙ and the men wa·’ă·šer מֵהֶ֣עָרִ֔ים coming out of the cities mê·he·‘ā·rîm מַשְׁחִיתִ֥ים struck them down maš·ḥî·ṯîm אוֹת֖וֹ - ’ō·w·ṯōw בְּתוֹכֽוֹ׃ there . bə·ṯō·w·ḵōw Judges 20:43 כִּתְּר֤וּ They surrounded kit·tə·rū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- בִּנְיָמִן֙ the Benjamites , bin·yā·min הִרְדִיפֻ֔הוּ pursued them , hir·ḏî·p̄u·hū מְנוּחָ֖ה and easily mə·nū·ḥāh הִדְרִיכֻ֑הוּ overtook them hiḏ·rî·ḵu·hū עַ֛ד in the vicinity ‘aḏ נֹ֥כַח . . . nō·ḵaḥ הַגִּבְעָ֖ה of Gibeah hag·giḇ·‘āh מִמִּזְרַח־ vvv mim·miz·raḥ- שָֽׁמֶשׁ׃ on the east . šā·meš Judges 20:44 שְׁמֹנָֽה־ And 18,000 šə·mō·nāh- עָשָׂ֥ר . . . ‘ā·śār אֶ֖לֶף . . . ’e·lep̄ מִבִּנְיָמִ֔ן Benjamites mib·bin·yā·min אִ֑ישׁ - ’îš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙ fell , way·yip·pə·lū כָּל־ all kāl- אֵ֖לֶּה . . . ’êl·leh אַנְשֵׁי־ men ’an·šê- חָֽיִל׃ of valor . ḥā·yil Judges 20:45 וַיִּפְנ֞וּ Then the Benjamites turned way·yip̄·nū וַיָּנֻ֤סוּ and fled way·yā·nu·sū הַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ toward the wilderness ham·miḏ·bā·rāh אֶל־ to ’el- סֶ֣לַע the rock se·la‘ הָֽרִמּ֔וֹן of Rimmon , hā·rim·mō·wn וַיְעֹֽלְלֻ֙הוּ֙ and Israel cut down way·‘ō·lə·lu·hū חֲמֵ֥שֶׁת 5,000 {} ḥă·mê·šeṯ אֲלָפִ֖ים . . . ’ă·lā·p̄îm אִ֑ישׁ men ’îš בַּֽמְסִלּ֔וֹת on the roads . bam·sil·lō·wṯ וַיַּדְבִּ֤יקוּ And they overtook them way·yaḏ·bî·qū אַחֲרָיו֙ . . . ’a·ḥă·rāw עַד־ at ‘aḏ- גִּדְעֹ֔ם Gidom giḏ·‘ōm וַיַּכּ֥וּ and struck down way·yak·kū מִמֶּ֖נּוּ . . . mim·men·nū אַלְפַּ֥יִם 2,000 more . ’al·pa·yim אִֽישׁ׃ . . . ’îš Judges 20:46 הַה֑וּא That ha·hū אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- בַּיּ֣וֹם day bay·yō·wm כָל־ - ḵāl וַיְהִי֩ - way·hî עֶשְׂרִים֩ 25,000 {} ‘eś·rîm וַחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה . . . wa·ḥă·miš·šāh
