אֶל־ against ’el- הַגִּבְעָ֖ה Gibeah hag·giḇ·‘āh כְּפַ֥עַם as they had done before kə·p̄a·‘am בְּפָֽעַם׃ . . . . bə·p̄ā·‘am Judges 20:31 בְנֵֽי־ The Benjamites ḇə·nê- בִנְיָמִן֙ . . . ḇin·yā·min וַיֵּצְא֤וּ came out way·yê·ṣə·’ū לִקְרַ֣את against liq·raṯ הָעָ֔ם [them] hā·‘ām הָנְתְּק֖וּ and were drawn away hā·nə·tə·qū מִן־ from min- הָעִ֑יר the city . hā·‘îr וַיָּחֵ֡לּוּ They began way·yā·ḥêl·lū לְהַכּוֹת֩ to attack lə·hak·kō·wṯ מֵהָעָ֨ם the people mê·hā·‘ām כְּפַ֣עַם׀ as before kə·p̄a·‘am בְּפַ֗עַם . . . , bə·p̄a·‘am חֲלָלִ֜ים killing ḥă·lā·lîm כִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֥ים about thirty kiš·lō·šîm אִ֖ישׁ men ’îš בְּיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ of Israel bə·yiś·rā·’êl בַּשָּׂדֶ֔ה in the fields baś·śā·ḏeh בַּֽמְסִלּוֹת֙ and on the roads , bam·sil·lō·wṯ אַחַ֜ת one ’a·ḥaṯ אֲשֶׁ֨ר of which ’ă·šer עֹלָ֣ה led up ‘ō·lāh בֵֽית־ to ḇêṯ- אֵ֗ל Bethel ’êl וְאַחַ֤ת and the other wə·’a·ḥaṯ גִּבְעָ֙תָה֙ to Gibeah . giḇ·‘ā·ṯāh Judges 20:32 נִגָּפִ֥ים “ We are defeating them nig·gā·p̄îm הֵ֛ם as before hêm לְפָנֵ֖ינוּ . . . lə·p̄ā·nê·nū כְּבָרִאשֹׁנָ֑ה . . . , ” kə·ḇā·ri·šō·nāh וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ said way·yō·mə·rū בְּנֵ֣י the Benjamites bə·nê בִנְיָמִ֔ן . . . . ḇin·yā·min וּבְנֵ֧י But the Israelites ū·ḇə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl אָמְר֗וּ said , ’ā·mə·rū נָנ֙וּסָה֙ “ Let us retreat nā·nū·sāh וּֽנְתַקְּנֻ֔הוּ and draw them away ū·nə·ṯaq·qə·nu·hū מִן־ from min- הָעִ֖יר the city hā·‘îr אֶל־ onto ’el- הַֽמְסִלּֽוֹת׃ the roads . ” ham·sil·lō·wṯ Judges 20:33 וְכֹ֣ל׀ So all wə·ḵōl אִ֣ישׁ the men ’îš יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl קָ֚מוּ got up qā·mū מִמְּקוֹמ֔וֹ from their places mim·mə·qō·w·mōw וַיַּעַרְכ֖וּ and arrayed themselves way·ya·‘ar·ḵū בְּבַ֣עַל vvv bə·ḇa·‘al תָּמָ֑ר at Baal-tamar , tā·mār יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל and the Israelites yiś·rā·’êl וְאֹרֵ֧ב in ambush wə·’ō·rêḇ מֵגִ֥יחַ charged mê·ḡî·aḥ מִמְּקֹמ֖וֹ from their positions mim·mə·qō·mōw מִמַּֽעֲרֵה־ west mim·ma·‘ă·rêh- גָֽבַע׃ of Gibeah . ḡā·ḇa‘ Judges 20:34 עֲשֶׂרֶת֩ Then 10,000 ‘ă·śe·reṯ אֲלָפִ֨ים . . . ’ă·lā·p̄îm בָּחוּר֙ select bā·ḥūr אִ֤ישׁ men ’îš מִכָּל־ from all mik·kāl יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl מִנֶּ֨גֶד made a frontal min·ne·ḡeḏ וַיָּבֹאוּ֩ assault way·yā·ḇō·’ū לַגִּבְעָ֜ה against Gibeah , lag·giḇ·‘āh וְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖ה and the battle wə·ham·mil·ḥā·māh כָּבֵ֑דָה was fierce . kā·ḇê·ḏāh וְהֵם֙ But the Benjamites wə·hêm לֹ֣א did not lō יָדְע֔וּ realize yā·ḏə·‘ū כִּֽי־ that kî- הָרָעָֽה׃פ disaster [was] hā·rā·‘āh נֹגַ֥עַת upon nō·ḡa·‘aṯ עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם them . ‘ă·lê·hem Judges 20:35 יְהוָ֥ה׀ YHWH Yah·weh אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- וַיִּגֹּ֨ף defeated way·yig·gōp̄ בִּנְיָמִן֮ Benjamin bin·yā·min לִפְנֵ֣י in the presence lip̄·nê יִשְׂרָאֵל֒ of Israel , yiś·rā·’êl הַה֔וּא and on that ha·hū
