וָאֱהִי־ to be wā·’ĕ·hî- ל֖וֹ his lōw לְכֹהֵֽן׃ priest . ” lə·ḵō·hên Judges 18:5 וַיֹּ֥אמְרוּ Then they said way·yō·mə·rū ל֖וֹ to him , lōw נָ֣א “ Please nā שְׁאַל־ inquire šə·’al- בֵאלֹהִ֑ים of God ḇê·lō·hîm וְנֵ֣דְעָ֔ה to determine wə·nê·ḏə·‘āh אֲנַ֖חְנוּ whether we ’ă·naḥ·nū הֹלְכִ֥ים . . . hō·lə·ḵîm עָלֶֽיהָ׃ . . . ‘ā·le·hā הֲתַצְלִ֣יחַ will have a successful hă·ṯaṣ·lî·aḥ דַּרְכֵּ֔נוּ journey dar·kê·nū אֲשֶׁ֥ר - . ” ’ă·šer Judges 18:6 הַכֹּהֵ֖ן And the priest hak·kō·hên וַיֹּ֧אמֶר told way·yō·mer לָהֶ֛ם them , lā·hem לְכ֣וּ “ Go lə·ḵū לְשָׁל֑וֹם in peace . lə·šā·lō·wm יְהוָ֔ה YHWH Yah·weh נֹ֣כַח is watching over nō·ḵaḥ דַּרְכְּכֶ֖ם your journey dar·kə·ḵem אֲשֶׁ֥ר - ’ă·šer תֵּֽלְכוּ־ - tê·lə·ḵū- בָֽהּ׃פ . . . . ” ḇāh Judges 18:7 חֲמֵ֣שֶׁת So the five ḥă·mê·šeṯ הָאֲנָשִׁ֔ים men hā·’ă·nā·šîm וַיֵּלְכוּ֙ departed way·yê·lə·ḵū וַיָּבֹ֖אוּ and came way·yā·ḇō·’ū לָ֑יְשָׁה to Laish , lā·yə·šāh וַיִּרְא֣וּ where they saw way·yir·’ū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָעָ֣ם that the people hā·‘ām אֲשֶׁר־ - ’ă·šer- בְּקִרְבָּ֣הּ - bə·qir·bāh יוֹשֶֽׁבֶת־ were living yō·wō·še·ḇeṯ- לָ֠בֶטַח securely , lā·ḇe·ṭaḥ כְּמִשְׁפַּ֨ט like kə·miš·paṭ צִדֹנִ֜ים the Sidonians , ṣi·ḏō·nîm שֹׁקֵ֣ט׀ tranquil šō·qêṭ וּבֹטֵ֗חַ and unsuspecting . ū·ḇō·ṭê·aḥ וְאֵין־ There was nothing wə·’ên- דָּבָ֤ר . . . dā·ḇār מַכְלִ֨ים lacking maḵ·lîm בָּאָ֙רֶץ֙ in the land bā·’ā·reṣ יוֹרֵ֣שׁ and no oppressive yō·w·rêš עֶ֔צֶר ruler . ‘e·ṣer הֵ֙מָּה֙ And they hêm·māh וּרְחֹקִ֥ים were far away ū·rə·ḥō·qîm מִצִּ֣דֹנִ֔ים from the Sidonians miṣ·ṣi·ḏō·nîm אֵין־ and had no ’ên- לָהֶ֖ם . . . lā·hem וְדָבָ֥ר alliance wə·ḏā·ḇār עִם־ with ‘im- אָדָֽם׃ anyone . ’ā·ḏām Judges 18:8 וַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ When the men returned way·yā·ḇō·’ū אֶל־ to ’el- אֲחֵיהֶ֔ם - ’ă·ḥê·hem צָרְעָ֖ה Zorah ṣā·rə·‘āh וְאֶשְׁתָּאֹ֑ל and Eshtaol , wə·’eš·tā·’ōl אֲחֵיהֶ֖ם their brothers ’ă·ḥê·hem וַיֹּאמְר֥וּ asked way·yō·mə·rū לָהֶ֛ם them , lā·hem מָ֥ה “ What māh אַתֶּֽם׃ did you find ? ” ’at·tem Judges 18:9 וַיֹּאמְר֗וּ They answered , way·yō·mə·rū ק֚וּמָה “ Come on , qū·māh וְנַעֲלֶ֣ה let us go up wə·na·‘ă·leh עֲלֵיהֶ֔ם against them , ‘ă·lê·hem כִּ֤י for kî רָאִ֙ינוּ֙ we have seen rā·’î·nū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָאָ֔רֶץ the land , hā·’ā·reṣ וְהִנֵּ֥ה . . . wə·hin·nêh מְאֹ֑ד and it is very mə·’ōḏ טוֹבָ֖ה good . ṭō·w·ḇāh וְאַתֶּ֣ם Why would you fail to act wə·’at·tem מַחְשִׁ֔ים . . . ? maḥ·šîm אַל־ Do not ’al- תֵּעָ֣צְל֔וּ hesitate tê·‘ā·ṣə·lū לָלֶ֥כֶת to go there lā·le·ḵeṯ לָבֹ֖א . . . lā·ḇō לָרֶ֥שֶׁת and take possession of lā·re·šeṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ-
