אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ every kāl- מַעֲשֵׂ֣ה work ma·‘ă·śêh הָאֱלֹהִים֒ of God , hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm כִּי֩ and that kî הָאָדָ֗ם a man hā·’ā·ḏām לֹ֨א is unable lō יוּכַ֜ל . . . yū·ḵal לִמְצוֹא֙ to comprehend lim·ṣō·w אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂה֙ the work ham·ma·‘ă·śeh אֲשֶׁ֣ר that ’ă·šer נַעֲשָׂ֣ה is done na·‘ă·śāh תַֽחַת־ under ṯa·ḥaṯ- הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ the sun . haš·še·meš בְּ֠שֶׁל Despite bə·šel אֲשֶׁ֨ר - ’ă·šer הָאָדָ֛ם [his] hā·’ā·ḏām יַעֲמֹ֧ל efforts ya·‘ă·mōl לְבַקֵּ֖שׁ to search it out , lə·ḇaq·qêš וְלֹ֣א he cannot wə·lō יִמְצָ֑א find [its meaning] ; yim·ṣā וְגַ֨ם even wə·ḡam אִם־ if ’im- הֶֽחָכָם֙ the wise he·ḥā·ḵām יֹאמַ֤ר man claims yō·mar לָדַ֔עַת to know , lā·ḏa·‘aṯ לֹ֥א he is unable lō יוּכַ֖ל . . . yū·ḵal לִמְצֹֽא׃ to comprehend . lim·ṣō Ecclesiastes 9:1 כִּ֣י So kî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- נָתַ֤תִּי I took nā·ṯat·tî כָּל־ all kāl- זֶ֞ה this zeh אֶל־ to ’el- לִבִּי֙ heart lib·bî וְלָב֣וּר and concluded wə·lā·ḇūr אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ - kāl- זֶ֔ה . . . zeh אֲשֶׁ֨ר that ’ă·šer הַצַּדִּיקִ֧ים the righteous haṣ·ṣad·dî·qîm וְהַחֲכָמִ֛ים and the wise , wə·ha·ḥă·ḵā·mîm וַעֲבָדֵיהֶ֖ם as well as their deeds , wa·‘ă·ḇā·ḏê·hem הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים are in God’s hā·’ĕ·lō·hîm בְּיַ֣ד hands . bə·yaḏ הָֽאָדָ֔ם Man hā·’ā·ḏām אֵ֤ין does not ’ên יוֹדֵ֙עַ֙ know yō·w·ḏê·a‘ הַכֹּ֖ל what hak·kōl לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ lies ahead , lip̄·nê·hem גַּֽם־ whether gam- אַהֲבָ֣ה love ’a·hă·ḇāh גַם־ or ḡam- שִׂנְאָ֗ה hate . śin·’āh Ecclesiastes 9:2 הַכֹּ֞ל vvv hak·kōl כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר It is the same ka·’ă·šer לַכֹּ֗ל for all : lak·kōl אֶחָ֜ד There is a common ’e·ḥāḏ מִקְרֶ֨ה fate miq·reh לַצַּדִּ֤יק for the righteous laṣ·ṣad·dîq וְלָרָשָׁע֙ and the wicked , wə·lā·rā·šā‘ לַטּוֹב֙ for the good [and the bad] , laṭ·ṭō·wḇ וְלַטָּה֣וֹר for the clean wə·laṭ·ṭā·hō·wr וְלַטָּמֵ֔א and the unclean , wə·laṭ·ṭā·mê וְלַזֹּבֵ֔חַ for the one who sacrifices wə·laz·zō·ḇê·aḥ וְלַאֲשֶׁ֖ר and the one wə·la·’ă·šer אֵינֶ֣נּוּ who does not ’ê·nen·nū זֹבֵ֑חַ - . zō·ḇê·aḥ כַּטּוֹב֙ As it is for the good , kaṭ·ṭō·wḇ כַּֽחֹטֶ֔א so it is for the sinner ; ka·ḥō·ṭe הַנִּשְׁבָּ֕ע as it is for the one who makes a vow , han·niš·bā‘ כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר so [it is] ka·’ă·šer יָרֵֽא׃ for the one who refuses yā·rê שְׁבוּעָ֥ה to take a vow . šə·ḇū·‘āh Ecclesiastes 9:3 זֶ֣ה׀ This zeh רָ֗ע is an evil rā‘ בְּכֹ֤ל in everything bə·ḵōl אֲשֶֽׁר־ that ’ă·šer- נַעֲשָׂה֙ is done na·‘ă·śāh תַּ֣חַת under ta·ḥaṯ הַשֶּׁ֔מֶשׁ the sun : haš·še·meš כִּֽי־ . . . kî- אֶחָ֖ד There is one ’e·ḥāḏ מִקְרֶ֥ה fate miq·reh לַכֹּ֑ל for everyone . lak·kōl וְגַ֣ם Furthermore , wə·ḡam לֵ֣ב the hearts lêḇ בְּֽנֵי־ of men bə·nê- הָ֠אָדָם . . . hā·’ā·ḏām
