הַמֶּ֗לֶךְ of the king , ham·me·leḵ אֵ֣ין no ’ên אֹנֵ֑ס limit was placed ’ō·nês כִּי־ kî- כֵ֣ן׀ ḵên וְהַשְּׁתִיָּ֥ה on the drinking , wə·haš·šə·ṯî·yāh עַ֚ל . . . ‘al כָּל־ and every kāl- רַ֣ב official raḇ בֵּית֔וֹ of his household bê·ṯōw לַעֲשׂ֖וֹת was to serve la·‘ă·śō·wṯ אִישׁ־ each ’îš- וָאִֽישׁ׃ man wā·’îš כִּרְצ֥וֹן whatever he desired . kir·ṣō·wn Esther 1:9 הַמַּלְכָּ֔ה Queen ham·mal·kāh וַשְׁתִּ֣י Vashti waš·tî גַּ֚ם also gam עָשְׂתָ֖ה gave ‘ā·śə·ṯāh מִשְׁתֵּ֣ה a banquet miš·têh נָשִׁ֑ים for the women nā·šîm הַמַּלְכ֔וּת in the royal ham·mal·ḵūṯ בֵּ֚ית palace bêṯ אֲשֶׁ֖ר - ’ă·šer לַמֶּ֥לֶךְ of King lam·me·leḵ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֽוֹשׁ׃ס Xerxes . ’ă·ḥaš·wê·rō·wōš Esther 1:10 הַשְּׁבִיעִ֔י On the seventh haš·šə·ḇî·‘î בַּיּוֹם֙ day , bay·yō·wm הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ when the king’s ham·me·leḵ לֵב־ heart lêḇ- כְּט֥וֹב was merry kə·ṭō·wḇ בַּיָּ֑יִן with wine , bay·yā·yin אָמַ֡ר he ordered ’ā·mar שִׁבְעַת֙ the seven šiḇ·‘aṯ הַסָּ֣רִיסִ֔ים eunuchs has·sā·rî·sîm הַמְשָׁ֣רְתִ֔ים who served ham·šā·rə·ṯîm אֶת־ . . . ’eṯ- פְּנֵ֖י . . . pə·nê הַמֶּ֥לֶךְ . . . ham·me·leḵ אֲחַשְׁוֵרֽוֹשׁ׃ him — ’ă·ḥaš·wê·rō·wōš לִ֠מְהוּמָן Mehuman , lim·hū·mān בִּזְּתָ֨א Biztha , biz·zə·ṯā חַרְבוֹנָ֜א Harbona , ḥar·ḇō·w·nā בִּגְתָ֤א Bigtha , biḡ·ṯā וַאֲבַגְתָא֙ Abagtha , wa·’ă·ḇaḡ·ṯā זֵתַ֣ר Zethar , zê·ṯar וְכַרְכַּ֔ס and Carkas — wə·ḵar·kas Esther 1:11 לְ֠הָבִיא to bring lə·hā·ḇî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַמַּלְכָּ֛ה Queen ham·mal·kāh וַשְׁתִּ֧י Vashti waš·tî לִפְנֵ֥י before lip̄·nê הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ him , ham·me·leḵ מַלְכ֑וּת [wearing] her royal mal·ḵūṯ בְּכֶ֣תֶר crown , bə·ḵe·ṯer לְהַרְא֨וֹת to display lə·har·’ō·wṯ יָפְיָ֔הּ her beauty yā·p̄ə·yāh הָֽעַמִּ֤ים to the people hā·‘am·mîm וְהַשָּׂרִים֙ and officials . wə·haś·śā·rîm אֶת־ - ’eṯ- כִּֽי־ For kî- הִֽיא׃ she [was] hî טוֹבַ֥ת beautiful ṭō·w·ḇaṯ מַרְאֶ֖ה to behold . mar·’eh Esther 1:12 הַמַּלְכָּ֣ה Queen ham·mal·kāh וַשְׁתִּ֗י Vashti, however , waš·tî וַתְּמָאֵ֞ן refused wat·tə·mā·’ên לָבוֹא֙ to come lā·ḇō·w הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ at the king’s ham·me·leḵ בִּדְבַ֣ר command biḏ·ḇar אֲשֶׁ֖ר - ’ă·šer בְּיַ֣ד [brought] by bə·yaḏ הַסָּרִיסִ֑ים [his] eunuchs . has·sā·rî·sîm הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ And the king ham·me·leḵ וַיִּקְצֹ֤ף became furious way·yiq·ṣōp̄ מְאֹ֔ד . . . , mə·’ōḏ וַחֲמָת֖וֹ and his anger wa·ḥă·mā·ṯōw בָּעֲרָ֥ה burned bā·‘ă·rāh בֽוֹ׃ within him . ḇōw Esther 1:13 הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ Then the king ham·me·leḵ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר consulted way·yō·mer לַחֲכָמִ֖ים the wise men la·ḥă·ḵā·mîm יֹדְעֵ֣י who knew yō·ḏə·‘ê הָֽעִתִּ֑ים the times , hā·‘it·tîm כִּי־ for it was kî- כֵן֙ customary ḵên
