וְשָׁכְבָ֣ה and lie wə·šā·ḵə·ḇāh בְחֵיקֶ֔ךָ by his side ḇə·ḥê·qe·ḵā לַאדֹנִ֥י {to keep} him la·ḏō·nî הַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ . . . ham·me·leḵ וְחַ֖ם warm . ” wə·ḥam 1 Kings 1:3 וַיְבַקְשׁוּ֙ Then they searched way·ḇaq·šū בְּכֹ֖ל throughout bə·ḵōl גְּב֣וּל . . . gə·ḇūl יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל Israel yiś·rā·’êl יָפָ֔ה for a beautiful yā·p̄āh נַעֲרָ֣ה girl , na·‘ă·rāh וַֽיִּמְצְא֗וּ and they found way·yim·ṣə·’ū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- אֲבִישַׁג֙ Abishag ’ă·ḇî·šaḡ הַשּׁ֣וּנַמִּ֔ית the Shunammite haš·šū·nam·mîṯ וַיָּבִ֥אוּ and brought way·yā·ḇi·’ū אֹתָ֖הּ her ’ō·ṯāh לַמֶּֽלֶךְ׃ to the king . lam·me·leḵ 1 Kings 1:4 וְהַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ה The girl wə·han·na·‘ă·rāh עַד־ was unsurpassed ‘aḏ- מְאֹ֑ד . . . mə·’ōḏ יָפָ֣ה in beauty ; yā·p̄āh וַתְּהִ֨י she wat·tə·hî סֹכֶ֙נֶת֙ cared sō·ḵe·neṯ לַמֶּ֤לֶךְ for the king lam·me·leḵ וַתְּשָׁ֣רְתֵ֔הוּ and served him , wat·tə·šā·rə·ṯê·hū וְהַמֶּ֖לֶךְ but he wə·ham·me·leḵ לֹ֥א had no lō יְדָעָֽהּ׃ relations with her . yə·ḏā·‘āh 1 Kings 1:5 וַאֲדֹנִיָּ֧ה At that time Adonijah , wa·’ă·ḏō·nî·yāh בֶן־ [David’s] son ḇen- חַגִּ֛ית by Haggith , ḥag·gîṯ מִתְנַשֵּׂ֥א began to exalt himself , miṯ·naś·śê לֵאמֹ֖ר saying , lê·mōr אֲנִ֣י “ I ’ă·nî אֶמְלֹ֑ךְ will be king ! ” ’em·lōḵ וַיַּ֣עַשׂ And he acquired way·ya·‘aś ל֗וֹ . . . lōw רֶ֚כֶב chariots re·ḵeḇ וּפָ֣רָשִׁ֔ים and horsemen ū·p̄ā·rā·šîm וַחֲמִשִּׁ֥ים and fifty wa·ḥă·miš·šîm אִ֖ישׁ men ’îš רָצִ֥ים to run rā·ṣîm לְפָנָֽיו׃ ahead of him . lə·p̄ā·nāw 1 Kings 1:6 אָבִ֤יו ( His father ’ā·ḇîw וְלֹֽא־ had never wə·lō- מִיָּמָיו֙ . . . mî·yā·māw עֲצָב֨וֹ once reprimanded him ‘ă·ṣā·ḇōw לֵאמֹ֔ר by saying , lê·mōr מַדּ֖וּעַ “ Why mad·dū·a‘ עָשִׂ֑יתָ do you act ‘ā·śî·ṯā כָּ֣כָה this way ? ” kā·ḵāh ה֤וּא [Adonijah was] hū וְגַם־ also wə·ḡam- מְאֹ֔ד very mə·’ōḏ וְאֹת֥וֹ - wə·’ō·ṯōw טֽוֹב־ handsome ṭō·wḇ- תֹּ֙אַר֙ . . . , tō·’ar יָלְדָ֖ה born yā·lə·ḏāh אַחֲרֵ֥י next after ’a·ḥă·rê אַבְשָׁלֽוֹם׃ Absalom . ) ’aḇ·šā·lō·wm 1 Kings 1:7 וַיִּהְי֣וּ So [Adonijah] way·yih·yū דְבָרָ֔יו conferred ḏə·ḇā·rāw עִ֚ם with ‘im יוֹאָ֣ב Joab yō·w·’āḇ בֶּן־ son ben- צְרוּיָ֔ה of Zeruiah ṣə·rū·yāh וְעִ֖ם and with wə·‘im אֶבְיָתָ֣ר Abiathar ’eḇ·yā·ṯār הַכֹּהֵ֑ן the priest , hak·kō·hên וַֽיַּעְזְר֔וּ who supported way·ya‘·zə·rū אַחֲרֵ֖י . . . ’a·ḥă·rê אֲדֹנִיָּֽה׃ [him] . ’ă·ḏō·nî·yāh 1 Kings 1:8 וְצָד֣וֹק But Zadok wə·ṣā·ḏō·wq הַ֠כֹּהֵן the priest , hak·kō·hên וּבְנָיָ֨הוּ Benaiah ū·ḇə·nā·yā·hū בֶן־ son ḇen- יְהוֹיָדָ֜ע of Jehoiada , yə·hō·w·yā·ḏā‘ וְנָתָ֤ן Nathan wə·nā·ṯān הַנָּבִיא֙ the prophet , han·nā·ḇî וְשִׁמְעִ֣י Shimei , wə·šim·‘î וְרֵעִ֔י Rei , wə·rê·‘î
