בַּרְזֶל֙ [the Canaanites] have iron bar·zel ל֔וֹ lōw רֶ֤כֶב chariots re·ḵeḇ כִּ֥י and although kî חָזָ֖ק they are strong , ḥā·zāq הֽוּא׃פ you can hū תוֹרִ֣ישׁ drive [them] out ṯō·w·rîš אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הַֽכְּנַעֲנִ֗י - . ” hak·kə·na·‘ă·nî Joshua 18:1 כָּל־ Then the whole kāl- עֲדַ֤ת congregation ‘ă·ḏaṯ בְּנֵֽי־ . . . bə·nê- יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ of Israel yiś·rā·’êl וַיִּקָּ֨הֲל֜וּ assembled way·yiq·qā·hă·lū שִׁלֹ֔ה at Shiloh ši·lōh וַיַּשְׁכִּ֥ינוּ and set up way·yaš·kî·nū אֹ֣הֶל the Tent ’ō·hel מוֹעֵ֑ד of Meeting mō·w·‘êḏ שָׁ֖ם there . šām אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְהָאָ֥רֶץ And though the land wə·hā·’ā·reṣ נִכְבְּשָׁ֖ה was subdued niḵ·bə·šāh לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃ before them , lip̄·nê·hem Joshua 18:2 וַיִּוָּֽתְרוּ֙ there were still way·yiw·wā·ṯə·rū שִׁבְעָ֖ה seven šiḇ·‘āh שְׁבָטִֽים׃ tribes šə·ḇā·ṭîm בִּבְנֵ֣י vvv biḇ·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל of Israel yiś·rā·’êl אֲשֶׁ֥ר who ’ă·šer לֹֽא־ had not lō- חָלְק֖וּ yet received ḥā·lə·qū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- נַֽחֲלָתָ֑ם their inheritance . na·ḥă·lā·ṯām Joshua 18:3 יְהוֹשֻׁ֖עַ So Joshua yə·hō·wō·šu·a‘ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר said way·yō·mer אֶל־ to ’el- בְּנֵ֣י the Israelites bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל . . . , yiś·rā·’êl עַד־ “ How long ‘aḏ- אָ֙נָה֙ . . . ’ā·nāh אַתֶּ֣ם will you ’at·tem מִתְרַפִּ֔ים put off miṯ·rap·pîm לָבוֹא֙ entering lā·ḇō·w לָרֶ֣שֶׁת and possessing lā·re·šeṯ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- הָאָ֔רֶץ the land hā·’ā·reṣ אֲשֶׁר֙ that ’ă·šer יְהוָ֖ה YHWH , Yah·weh אֱלֹהֵ֥י the God ’ĕ·lō·hê אֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃ of your fathers , ’ă·ḇō·w·ṯê·ḵem נָתַ֣ן has given nā·ṯan לָכֶ֔ם you ? lā·ḵem Joshua 18:4 הָב֥וּ Appoint hā·ḇū לָכֶ֛ם lā·ḵem שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה three šə·lō·šāh אֲנָשִׁ֖ים men ’ă·nā·šîm לַשָּׁ֑בֶט from each tribe , laš·šā·ḇeṭ וְאֶשְׁלָחֵ֗ם and I will send them out wə·’eš·lā·ḥêm וְיָקֻ֜מוּ . . . wə·yā·qu·mū וְיִֽתְהַלְּכ֥וּ to survey wə·yiṯ·hal·lə·ḵū בָאָ֛רֶץ the land ḇā·’ā·reṣ וְיִכְתְּב֥וּ and map it out wə·yiḵ·tə·ḇū אוֹתָ֛הּ - , ’ō·w·ṯāh לְפִ֥י according to lə·p̄î נַֽחֲלָתָ֖ם the inheritance of each . na·ḥă·lā·ṯām וְיָבֹ֥אוּ Then they will return wə·yā·ḇō·’ū אֵלָֽי׃ to me ’ê·lāy Joshua 18:5 וְהִֽתְחַלְּק֥וּ and divide wə·hiṯ·ḥal·lə·qū אֹתָ֖הּ [the land] ’ō·ṯāh לְשִׁבְעָ֣ה into seven lə·šiḇ·‘āh חֲלָקִ֑ים portions . ḥă·lā·qîm יְהוּדָ֞ה Judah yə·hū·ḏāh יַעֲמֹ֤ד shall remain ya·‘ă·mōḏ עַל־ in ‘al- גְּבוּלוֹ֙ their territory gə·ḇū·lōw מִנֶּ֔גֶב in the south , min·ne·ḡeḇ וּבֵ֥ית and the house ū·ḇêṯ יוֹסֵ֛ף of Joseph yō·w·sêp̄ יַעַמְד֥וּ shall remain ya·‘am·ḏū עַל־ in ‘al- גְּבוּלָ֖ם their territory gə·ḇū·lām מִצָּפֽוֹן׃ in the north . miṣ·ṣā·p̄ō·wn
