Numbers 3:2 וְאֵ֛לֶּה These wə·’êl·leh שְׁמ֥וֹת are the names šə·mō·wṯ בְּֽנֵי־ of the sons bə·nê- אַהֲרֹ֖ן of Aaron : ’a·hă·rōn נָדָ֑ב Nadab nā·ḏāḇ הַבְּכ֣וֹר׀ the firstborn , hab·bə·ḵō·wr וַאֲבִיה֕וּא then Abihu , wa·’ă·ḇî·hū אֶלְעָזָ֖ר Eleazar , ’el·‘ā·zār וְאִיתָמָֽר׃ and Ithamar . wə·’î·ṯā·mār Numbers 3:3 אֵ֗לֶּה These ’êl·leh אַהֲרֹ֔ן [were] Aaron’s ’a·hă·rōn שְׁמוֹת֙ - šə·mō·wṯ בְּנֵ֣י sons , bə·nê הַמְּשֻׁחִ֑ים the anointed ham·mə·šu·ḥîm הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים priests , hak·kō·hă·nîm אֲשֶׁר־ who ’ă·šer- מִלֵּ֥א were ordained mil·lê יָדָ֖ם . . . yā·ḏām לְכַהֵֽן׃ to serve as priests . lə·ḵa·hên Numbers 3:4 נָדָ֣ב Nadab nā·ḏāḇ וַאֲבִיה֣וּא and Abihu, however , wa·’ă·ḇî·hū וַיָּ֣מָת died way·yā·māṯ לִפְנֵ֣י in the presence of lip̄·nê יְהוָ֡ה YHWH Yah·weh בְּֽהַקְרִבָם֩ when they offered bə·haq·ri·ḇām זָרָ֜ה unauthorized zā·rāh אֵ֨שׁ fire ’êš לִפְנֵ֤י before lip̄·nê יְהוָה֙ YHWH Yah·weh בְּמִדְבַּ֣ר in the Wilderness bə·miḏ·bar סִינַ֔י of Sinai . sî·nay הָי֣וּ And since they had hā·yū לָהֶ֑ם lā·hem לֹא־ no lō- וּבָנִ֖ים sons , ū·ḇā·nîm אֶלְעָזָר֙ only Eleazar ’el·‘ā·zār וְאִ֣יתָמָ֔ר and Ithamar wə·’î·ṯā·mār וַיְכַהֵ֤ן served as priests way·ḵa·hên עַל־ during ‘al- פְּנֵ֖י the lifetime pə·nê אֲבִיהֶֽם׃פ of their father ’ă·ḇî·hem אַהֲרֹ֥ן Aaron . ’a·hă·rōn Numbers 3:5 יְהוָ֖ה Then YHWH Yah·weh וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר said way·ḏab·bêr אֶל־ to ’el- מֹשֶׁ֥ה Moses mō·šeh לֵּאמֹֽר׃ . . . , lê·mōr Numbers 3:6 הַקְרֵב֙ “ Bring haq·rêḇ מַטֵּ֣ה the tribe maṭ·ṭêh לֵוִ֔י of Levi lê·wî אֶת־ - ’eṯ- וְֽהַעֲמַדְתָּ֣ and present wə·ha·‘ă·maḏ·tā אֹת֔וֹ them ’ō·ṯōw לִפְנֵ֖י to lip̄·nê אַהֲרֹ֣ן Aaron ’a·hă·rōn הַכֹּהֵ֑ן the priest hak·kō·hên וְשֵׁרְת֖וּ to assist him wə·šê·rə·ṯū אֹתֽוֹ׃ - . ’ō·ṯōw Numbers 3:7 וְשָׁמְר֣וּ They are to perform wə·šā·mə·rū אֶת־ - ’eṯ- מִשְׁמַרְתּ֗וֹ duties for him miš·mar·tōw וְאֶת־ - wə·’eṯ- מִשְׁמֶ֙רֶת֙ - miš·me·reṯ כָּל־ and for the whole kāl- הָ֣עֵדָ֔ה congregation hā·‘ê·ḏāh לִפְנֵ֖י before lip̄·nê אֹ֣הֶל the Tent ’ō·hel מוֹעֵ֑ד of Meeting , mō·w·‘êḏ לַעֲבֹ֖ד attending la·‘ă·ḇōḏ אֶת־ - ’eṯ- עֲבֹדַ֥ת to the service ‘ă·ḇō·ḏaṯ הַמִּשְׁכָּֽן׃ of the tabernacle . ham·miš·kān Numbers 3:8 וְשָׁמְר֗וּ They shall take care of wə·šā·mə·rū אֶֽת־ - ’eṯ- כָּל־ all kāl- כְּלֵי֙ the furnishings kə·lê אֹ֣הֶל of the Tent ’ō·hel מוֹעֵ֔ד of Meeting mō·w·‘êḏ וְאֶת־ and wə·’eṯ- מִשְׁמֶ֖רֶת fulfill obligations miš·me·reṯ בְּנֵ֣י for the Israelites bə·nê יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל . . . yiś·rā·’êl
